Adhd is naturally low levels of of dopamine. I'm pretty sure having none of the motivational chemical in your brain makes you feel depressed. Also substance abuse IS associated with ADHD and many other neorodivergences as well, as well as STRESS AND PTSD. It's literally on the Stress Continuum used in the British army and navy to assess stress levels in soldiers and sailors. Great job, psychiatrist

Y’all have any advice for when ur therapist says stuff like “I’m surprised at this diagnosis, I think ur thinking about it too much, a lot of psychiatrists think they way they tested you isn’t really a good measure anyway”

"ADHD doesn't cause depression or anxiety " what? WHAT? Lol, as someone with ADHD that has anxiety with a clear link to the ADHD... like, at least half of my panic attacks are related to my inability to deal with my ADHD: WWHHHHAAAAATTTT?

Just went to my first psychiatrist appointment hoping to get diagnosis for autism and ADHD, end up getting a diagnosis and meds for depression. What really pisses me off is that the psychiatrist just said “you are unlikely to have ADHD because you are doing well at the uni so far.” And then he also said because a ADHD diagnosis is hard to get and takes a lot of time and money, let’s just treat your depression first and see what would happen. I mean I totally got it that because the diagnosis is hard so you’re not giving me one, but not because I seems to doing okay at uni that I don’t have ADHD, not for that fxxking reason only! He didn’t even ask anything about ADHD and I was so bad at explaining things myself. Also, all he knew about my performance at uni was that I’m probably having the same number of semesters as others and nothing else. He doesn’t understand one can do okay but still struggle a fxxking ton. I’m still so angry after a few hours now. Also I didn’t say anything to him which makes me more angry now, because I really want to and it’s hard to hold all the anger to myself 😖

omg when you said the thing about your psychiatrist telling you that "ADHD doesn't cause depression or anxiety" I felt that. On my intake 3 weeks ago for my ED I described symptoms of depression as well and the psychiatrist was like "well those aren't symptoms of an eating disorder" and I was like 'Bruh, really? So it's very unlikely that my ED is making me depressed as well?' I didn't say anything really, but in my head I was facepalming so hard.

I'm so sorry to hear about your struggles. Thank you for being brave enough to share. You're helping many. I hope Vyvanse is the answer you've been seeking.

Loved your outfit— those pants look sooo comfortable. It’s nice to be reminded that I don’t have to wear uncomfortable pants, and that I can indeed just look for comfy options because they do exists out there.

So many things to say, thanks for sharing your day with us ✨🧡 and also your mixed feelings reactions to the psych appt. So freaking relatable. So many times the psychiatrist thinks they know you better than you know yourself.

I also hate the sound of dishware clanking, and keep earmuffs meant for heavy machinery on my paper towel roll for all the bad sounds. :P

that comment about adhd not having anything to do with anxiety/depression is baffling!! the byproduct of untreated adhd, at least for me, being behind in school and stuff, that chronic stress can lead to mood disorders. it's all linked!!! i remember coming to the realization that no matter how much i did, there'd always be more to do, like entropy, and that thought made me spiral so bad...

I’m seeing this a couple of months too late, but does your psych know you are autistic? I read it’s common for autistic women to be diagnosed with bipolar or bpd. I had an awful experience with a psychiatrist a couple of years ago and won’t go back, so I totally understand where you were coming from there. I’m also autistic and I really think mental health professionals don’t understand us.

Women with ASD are often misdiagnosed with BPD. I have ASD and I work in the mental health field/psychiatry and I just wanted to reach out. Without knowing your history or anything I don’t think you have BPD based on how you come across in videos. I know that probably sounds weird.

I hope this psychiatrist understands ASD in girls and women and you don’t get a label or diagnosis incorrectly. I would recommend you check out the DSM V and the criteria for BPD and if you feel like that fits or not. The psychiatrist probably was like “oh several suicide attempts and female, must be BPD.” That would be my guess. I also think it’s nuts they put you on a different med (was it SSRI?) to check if you become hypomanic or manic.

Edit: I just realized if you’re already taking bupropion and you haven’t had symptoms of mania I think you’re good? bupropion can induce mania for folks with bipolar disorders.
