I always felt that the best way to experience the peninsular campaing is by playing the spanish, its really a challenge and it felt great to finally kick out the french out of spain

Never played a Total War game. I've narrowed my next game down to this, or Ultimate General: Civil War. Haven't decided yet, they both look excellent.

The only thing that is truly garbage in Napoleon total war is diplomacy.

The game has actually aged quite well. Reinstalled it a few days ago and I realized I’d forgot how good it was. Also realized they should have patched the game much much sooner. Assholes.

America outnumbered Canada population 17-1 at height(today halved) 10-1 military, yet all 5 invading armies outnumbering 2,3,4 even 5 to 1 got our asses kicked.

It'd be nice if infantry didn't get back up after being shot with a cannon. Very hard should improve their tactics, not make them cannon-proof. An "are you sure" when you click on a building under construction so you don't accidentally cancel it would also be nice. The tiny hills in the terrain make placing artillery tedious. It'd be nice if there was a way to highlight shoot-over-able terrain. Sometimes it's like the game is teasing you, leaving the good spot 20 feet out of your deployment zone.

Napoleon is such a rare beautiful game.
I read somewhere that you never realize that a certain day was the last time playing on the street with your friends;
Once I must have been playing Napoleon, thinking of all the good games that CA would make in the future, not knowing I was experiencing the last real good game they''d made. Nice they have it on Steam so many hours were added to Napoleon, Empire, Medieval 2 and the Kingdoms expansion, Rome, and only a very small amount of hours on the newer titles. Really tried Rome 2, and the DEI mod, but something is missing.
It just doesn't touch me anymore, The game immersion is lost to me.

To me. All total wars are worth it.

Attempted to go back to Napoleon recently and it just crashes within the first 2 turns.. unmodded. Read a few forums and loads have reported this issue with newer rigs. Gutted as I miss the navel battles and lines of infantry thrashing it out.

I feel like NTW was much more visually stunning compared to ETW.

But ETW had more variety other features for the gunpowder age.

The AI sucks a big one ! You will find your so called Allies with just do nothing the whole map or will try to stop you from winning . Now if the the team you fighting against they will fight like all hell . Just play Napoleon you will ask your self what the Hell is wrong with the AI !

only the scope of empire has me still playing it. Napoleon in every other effect is far superior. I cannot stop playing napoleon and just this week I conquered the world on the hardest settings( aka suicide mode) granted it was the easiest faction, Britain and I had to pause in live battles because of the speed and devastation of enemy cavalry charges ( i had a unit slam into my guarding infantry unit, one horse flew over the top and landed dead, but still sliding forward and wiping out 3 units of cannon, explain that ...kekw)

Napoleon killed me bc empire is my favorite Tw game. So I was hype for nap, but while the battle gameplay is good, I hate how few factions you have to play as. I think I’ll always favor ETW bc of the fact there’s so many more possibilities gameplay wise.

I love total war napoleon it was my first total war and i actually enjoyed the small campaign map because it was easier for me to get my head around as new player in the total war franchise because if i got a really big map from the beginning i would of sacred me way of the franchise rather than enticed me to get Rome or war hammer 2

My only problom with total war games in general is the fact you cant play as smaller nations Like Saxony or Genoa. Otherwise, they have amazing games.

Much better than Empire in my opinion. Napoleon fixed a lot of issues.

i had a rebellion, i left only 60 soldiers inside a building and 60 minutes later the 4000 rebels who invaded me didnt kill or break into the building i left them in, they spent all the ammo, at the end i was surrounded but i won .....with 25 soldiers left...NAPOLEON MY *
they had 4 UNITS OF CANNONS too..... didnt move them either

The gun powder games were my favorite. Land battles were amazing to watch as infantry lines were drawn up while artillery was exploding all around you. The sea battles were just as amazing to behold and play. If they ever revisit gun powder era, I hope a world map in the Victorian era would be amazing.

Corsica was under French rule when Napoleon was born, not Italian. Before the French conquest Corsica was its own Republic for 14 years. Pasquale Paoli was a great hero for Napoleon, not reciprocated.

I couldn't get on with the battles. Same tactics won me every victory, but there's so much micromanaging because of bad AI. A whole regiment can completely ignore the enemy because they are facing the wrong direction, which is quite easy to do when withdrawing a unit some distance. Cavalry will also stand still instead of reacting to being shot, and cannon will continue to blast out grapeshot even when they're hitting your own men. Just too many little annoyances.
