i agree! hating people is bad and not helpful, but there has for quite some time always been anti harrassment which seems a little slimey to potray it as compelled speech.

I've hated humanity since i was 13. As someone on the Autism spectrum I've experienced a world that doesn’t treat us Autistic people kindly. I went through early childhood trauma and verbal abuse. A single mom who struggled working hard day in and day out. I dont care for trans people. In fact i hate most young people. I respect many in the elderly community because they're more mature than our youth.

99% of non-trans peoples lives has anything to do with trans people. We have our own lives to think about and live. We sure as hell don't demand words from strangers to appease our emotions.

I agree with Jordan on this. You can have your opinions on this, but the only thing you can’t really argue is the fact that anti-compelled speech was unconstitutional.

The only thing I do disagree with is where he said it has nothing to do with transgender persons. Transgender people quite literally stand against this law of compelled speech

Jordan Peterson is possibly the most misunderstood person alive. We live in a society where no one actually reads whole stories or watches whole interviews. Everyone is guilty automatically and when you contradict they will constantly evade and find childish excuses. It’s so sad, parents are doing a horrible job of raising kids today and the internet is the most evil thing in the world

So somebody correct me if I'm wrong because I'm a bit out of the loop, but I think he might be wrong on one of three points when he says that there's never been anything to prohibit private speech in english common law. When he says "private speech" I'm not sure if he means private as opposed to publicly-owned, or as opposed to exposed to the public. In either case, he's wrong.

First, we do have limitations on what we can say privately such as screaming "fire" in a crowded movie theater, or "gun" in an airport.
Second, we have limitations on how we can verbally abuse our families or employees.

But the main problem I have is that a lot of the right cares more about censorship than they do about discrimination, and that's why people have such a hard time trusting JP. Don't get me wrong, I still respect him (sometimes, although I admit I have mixed feelings because when he misses he'll miss pretty fucking hard), but it can be hard to respect when people frame things as censorship and freedom of speech to the point where they'll just sacrifice anything*, and see *everything as a threat to speech.

Although I also have to be transparent that I'm not confident I'm informed in the first place. I'm expecting to be corrected in at least some important point, and the only reason I'm not doing more research is because I'll lose my place in the comments if I change to another tab. So, sorry if I'm totally off the mark in a particularly bad way, but I don't mind being corrected.

I wish he spoke like this all the time. He has his highs and they're very very high, I just wish he had better control over his lows. For people wondering why he isn't trusted, it's because they expect a pattern based on his lows. And that's... honestly kind of fair. Everyone saying "why don't people understand him" are doing the same thing to other folks.

Well the current Supreme Court said that Roe V Wade was settled case law, then they overturned it. So your "Supreme Court says this" argument falls way short of the mark.

The way I thought of it when he first explained it was:

You can put a ban on a few certain words. For example you can ban the N word. But you can’t legally compel people to use any speech. Otherwise there’s a chance that you will be legally compelled to always use the N word.

The law doesn't compel speech and it says nothing about pronouns. This guy needs a new hobby.

Freedom of speech does not imply freedom of consequences. You took the stance of not wanting to call trans people by their preferred pronouns so you'll have to accept the consequences of losing your job.
What you did was unrespectful to your trans students. So they had every right to fire you.
