AWESOME!
Also, it's kind of sad you don't have the Level 2 AC charger built in and just DC fast charging! I know AC would be DOG SLOW but it's always nice to have backups for those bad days! hopefully they can get the DC charging up to 250 or 350 KW, might be able to get that 3 hour charge down to 2 or 1 hours!!
It looks like 90 percent of the bus volume is dedicated to the EV system, with nothing left for stuff like passenger luggage.
Ответитьits gonna be interesting when its perfected, but i am afraid its going to be a while because its not logical for long tours etc
ОтветитьVery nice job 👍 and very professionally shot and edited. It really was a great presentation! You get better at it every time you do it. Keep up the great work. And I feel sorry for your wife and kids cuz you truly are a Bus 🥜
ОтветитьEnjoyed the video James 👍👏😊♥️🇺🇸
ОтветитьKnowing that lithium batteries is a fire hazard , you do know that once these batteries go through a thermo melt down once you see the tell tail white smoke can you get everyone off of the bus in 10 seconds, also remember that the white smoke is highly toxic. With those batteries being under the bus inside the luggage compartment I would not be wanting to be on that bus.
ОтветитьI want to see PCC use one on the Christmas break to thr airport.
ОтветитьSo my question is what’s going to happen to all the diesel technicians?
ОтветитьAfter watching this, and the other video with ABC Companies, it is clear they are passionate about everything buses. Everyone is very knowledgeable and passionate on what they do. Clearly everyone from the top down cares.
I wonder how the luggage issue can be addressed, I guess that is the million dollar question. Get that solved, and range (which is easier to solve) and this could be a great coach bus for the future. I'm sure one day it will happen.
Omg. Where would the luggage go???
ОтветитьThe ABC video was so good. ❤
ОтветитьIt's all done very nicely and I am sure it also works very nicely, however, this bus is basically useless. I did not count the seats, but it has to be between 47 and 56. Now tell me where the luggage goes? You need to pull a trailer. All European buses have not much room for luggage to begin with. Now with that e-system there is no more luggage space. Just great!
ОтветитьThank you, this video answering my question. This bus is most definitely a conversion. However, this is the most well tought out vehicle conversion I am aware of. You, dont, for example, have the passengers sitting up against the roof (which is how Mercedes does their SUV conversion). Being a conversion is the root issue leaning to the loss of space. A ground up EV design would easily solve the space issues.
ОтветитьI love the technology that an EV Coach has on it but it just doesn’t seem very practical for the average charter company. That range just doesn’t cut it.
ОтветитьGlad you made this video cause I really wanted to know the details and workings of this
ОтветитьThey should have made the Regen braking power go to the water heaters that would be more efficient
ОтветитьI wonder if they charge it via level 2 j1772 ? I have a j1772 port on the back of my van to grab power from charging stations to run my stuff in the van
ОтветитьIf Peoria comes to the DC area let me know I'll do that gig you told me about
ОтветитьEv coaches or buses would be great for Cities since you'd probably always be near a charge station. But for long range trips the tradtional diesel bus is gonna be here for awhile Until we get better battery techology or some sort of say nuclear battery, or maybe hydrogen fuel cell bus
ОтветитьToo little luggage space, and very little consolidation of components. It would be far cheaper to buy a Telsa Semi for $200K and deploy $180K of it (all except the shell of the cab) into a bus - might be cheaper than a diesel bus, and all, or nearly all of the luggage space will be retained.
ОтветитьMy city has been testing some electric slinky busses and just this week put them into service and they are on my route. Super cool to see all these systems before I get to ride on it!
ОтветитьInteresting! For now it’s perfect for local transport like airport shuttle or transfer bus from train to bus. It should be enough for a couple round trips maybe then it’s off to a charging break. I’m sure the technology will improve to have more space for luggage and longer range to be practical for charter services.
ОтветитьJames, this episode is a keeper! Thank you. I think this phase of EV mass transit is like the Sputnik phase was for space travel. Components will keep getting smaller, hence more luggage space. Battery chemistry and regeneration will keep getting more efficient. Maybe we will see your 20th Anniversary episode on some yet to be developed communications platform showing the 2040 model EV motor coach. Blessings.
ОтветитьSuper cool
Love the new vanhoul
Luggage no goes on customers laps
ОтветитьThe luggage space is a major issue. I can see it being used as a commuter bus or a local tour bus but not for any OTR trips. If the company I used to work for in Maryland took a day charter to NYC it wouldn't work. It's roughly 240 miles each way and 4 hours to get there depending on traffic. It's hard enough to find parking it's going to be worse trying to find a charging station. An average day trip to NYC the groups stays there for 6 hours. If the electric coach has a max range of 250 did they consider the load of the heat and AC, electronics as well as the power inverters for the AC outlets? The outside temps. It seems fine for a commuter bus where it can sit and charge all night but that also means the bus company has to buy charging stations for all the buses. I am sure that is something you already asked.
The only time I drove an all electric vehicle was the Ford Mustang Mach E. That thing took off so fast I was at 70 MPH before I knew what was happening.
How was the acceleration? How many motors and were there any in the front?
Take care and be safe.
Informative video. RTD of Denver has had electric busses in several of their in-town routes since 2016. Nice not to have all that deisel exhaust downtown! I could see RTD using the busses in this video for thier work comunters from the bedroom communities outside the greater Dnever area (Ft. Collins, Loveland, Longmont, etc.). I agree with you, the lack of luggage space does not really lend itself wewll to tour busses. But intercity commuting might be the nich (at this point in time) for ABC's busses. Thanks for the video!
ОтветитьHa, ha..that was my second question after range, must be a serious drain on the batteries.
ОтветитьThank you for the deep-dive on how electric technology is being implemented in these busses. While like you mentioned its not there "yet" its making leaps and bounds to get better and better each day. Its pretty amazing as a bus owner to see all of the components that make a bus work being carried out by electrical counterparts... like air system, hydraulic steering system, air conditioning and heating, etc. It'll only get better and more integrated as time goes on. Theres not a lot of "transparency" in the bus space so I appreciate yourself and ABC for making these videos. While the initial price for entry into one of these EV's is probably exponential in comparison to the fossil fuel current versions its obvious that their long term TCO is much lower maintenance wise.
ОтветитьYou flew to Florida? You should have taken the bus! 😉
ОтветитьLove this channel. Thanks James
Ответитьhey i got a question about the mci d4505 and you can do more vids.
Ответить250 range? damn
ОтветитьSo you lose all luggage capacity
ОтветитьI like all electric but on these coaches where are all the bags in et cetera located for example greyhound has 3 underneath the bus for spare tires bags etc
ОтветитьHey. U did show the emergency exit windows before but do they have alarms on them like school buses do?
ОтветитьClearly, these are for shuttles and quick airport transfers. There's not much luggage room underneath. But it's a good idea.
ОтветитьEV tech would be great for city buses since the lack of luggage space is not a factor, also EV motors are a lot more efficient for stop & go traffic.
ОтветитьDouble the price, half the range, no luggage space, electricity rates going up, little infrastructure, right. it's quieter. So what. I like the sound of the hum and lullaby motor. it pollutes less. but where does the power come from? Today's busses gave that figured out.
I'll buy 10. 10 desktop models that is for my kids.
A 250 mile range is plenty to travel from one end of the Netherlands to the other. Ideal for shuttling tourists between the various tourist traps here. They don't carry their suitcases, only backpacks, to the different things to visit.
I haven't seen electric buses at my local tourist trap yet, but the public transport is going fully electric later this year.
How big is the battery? And how much range?
ОтветитьYes it is zero emission, how about short circuit or overload i mean overcharging the high voltage, maybe it's dongerous to the passenger inside the bus while travel?..
ОтветитьCool. How much that bus cost?
Ответитьis it using Lihtium ion Phosphate cells [LIFE/Lipo4]? or standard lithium-ions ? also orange high volate is what volage ? i used to say EVs are much simpler than combustion engine...i think i'm wrong based on what was shown...hahahaha..
ОтветитьOK, I just have to leave another comment. Apparently these buses have more than twenty thousand pounds of batteries somewhere. Has anybody ever seen an EV burn? I have and it's not something I want to see ever again. I don't even want to think about what would happen if one of thoses buses catches fire. You need an evac plan for the passengers! Thanks, but no thanks, that's all I say.
ОтветитьThey should put skateboard batteries in the electric bus
ОтветитьThank You!
Ответитьpretty much no luggage storage though, all that equipment takes up whole left side, 50% of the right side
ОтветитьHaving to assume these things are live at all time and not to touch without testing them goes to show just how much we are not in control. Bad idea for the future im diesel and or alternative fuels all the way but still wouldnt mind working on these as there interesting.
Ответить
