Eric Clapton, the eminem of blues.

Words will never some up how much I utterly loathe this kind of playing. Yes. We get it. Blues scale, good for you. It's boring, it's predictable, it's generic and played out, and you can walk into any bar and find 50 guitarists who could play more interesting licks. I grew up with a blues loving father and I've heard every single variation possible, and I utterly despise the "oh but listen to the FEELING" excuse that constantly gets thrown around to excuse mediocre white dudes.

Clapton is not just a guitarist but great singer and composer.He helped all the old blues guys get the retribution they deserved and he's a honorable man for giving back.

Clapton is awesome. Still one of the most tasteful soloists and cool rhythm players ever. And the voice/ songs. EVH was a Clapton fanboy for good reason.

Unpopular opinion, but EC is THE most overrated guitar player of all time. You just have to look at the inovation of players around him at the time of his rise to success to see that - Jeff Beck, Rory Gallagher, Jimi Hendrix - yes they were also appropriating blues licks but in a way far more exciting and charismatic than EC. He was basically just there around the time the first guitar pedal came out as well and so had an original sound, only because that technology didn't exist before and someone gave it to him! So the tech was new, but his playing wasn't, just 0-3-5 boring mediocre blues rock with zero added to it.

Then someone spray painted Clapton is God on a wall (pressumably because they hadn't heard Jeff Beck) and he just coasted on that ever since. He's also the reason everyone plays a black strat... just the most basic, boring guitar... essentially the default electric guitar for anyone not interested in doing a bit of research or trying anything else. Just the absolute quintessential blues douche.

Oh , and all this is besides the racist rants on stage and anti-vax bs. I know that doesn't have anything to do with the playing, but when the playing is this boring it's hard to ignore.

He has fantastic voice and he wrote some of the best songs ever written, he has the whole package.Of course he is nowhere near to dudes like Beck,Robben Ford and others on guitar playing, but these guys never wrote anything worth mentioning.Thats why he is considered to be a GOD in music

Clapton is a breath of fresh air when you just want to play relaxed.😅"Wonderful Tonight" is the last song I jam after hours practicing and learning Yngwie, Guthrie, Vai, Nuno, Petrucci. etc😂. But some of my snub "shred guitar elitist" friends dislike EC because he's "Slowhands" too slow and cant shred. But for me I like Clapton even though he'll get destroyed in a G3 or a NAMM shred jam. Sometimes it's not all about speed but EMOTIONS, right?😉

Im watching and i still don't get it. I think he appeared at the right time, rubbed elbows with the right people and had the right political opinions to become an idol to the Left. Thats all.
