Based on some Subaru's and Hondas, the fact it was welded by laser ... you likely braze the roof. Brazing is like a soft weld as it doesn't really penetrate the metals but bonds through liquefying a metal. If you look at Subarus and Hondas they braze their roofs and the repair is likely a braze method. It should be fine though as its likely not structural just a methodology.
