I never really cared for Kemper plus it is ugly af looking, axe fx has a better look to it. I think some of the best amp sims though are The amp sims that come with Steven Slate all access pass. Ive never heard my guitars and bass sound so clear in a mix before. The distortion doesn’t get cluttered. You should review them if you haven’t yet

Wile i usually like what this man has to say. This time i do not disagree either. But i am a Kemper owner, i love it to pieces. And the fact i like to point out you have expensive amps as well. The kemper was a solution for me 4 years a go. Portable multi amp rig, inears, silent practicing, loud if you need it, being able to recreate a sound on all volume levels. And yes evolution got to the point that not only my gear is overpriced but truly also yours, that has none of the effect built in. Kemper was 10 years industry standard without updating the hardware. Profiles got better also the effects. Then we got the cab and kone. Still magnificent gear. Tone X also magnificent but then we need amp and heavy cab. No i am going to stick to my Kemper whatever you say. Had a Mesa and a Marshall. Loved the sound but hated the lugging hauling, cables, power suplies, battery's. No still very happy. So you like the Tone X better good for you!

Cool video, great info, I'm sure I'll get one! I'm just not sure how you see that I spent way too much money on my Kemper considering I've been able to do what this little box does for the past 10 years, not to mention all the other kickass features the ToneX simply isn't capable of. Just sayin....

I'd say right now it's the best amp/profiler for the money you put into it vs what you get (barring that one free amp plugin), but it does lack the practicality of modellers like QC and Kemper in that they have all the effects etc accessible without having to get into the software/other hardware, however I would like to see the limits of the software and how reliably it could work from a tour perspective. Got my Kemper around the time the QC came out and I've never had any issues whatsoever even with it being the oldest of the big 3

I felt like the Kemper held its own better in the mix. The Quad Cortex sounded better on it's own, but it seemed to be due to a great ambience that sounded "extra"The Tonex sounded great and if it was available when I got my Kemper I would have gotten the Tonex based on price

Well, I don't really get the point in this can-you-hear-the-difference-thing. Of course there are differences - but these are no longer differences on the quality side. Just some frequencies here and there. In total all of the items simulate tube sounds on a high level, it sounds totally believable. What we will see in the future is price dropping.

Wow, the tonex is surprising. I’ll admit, I’ve dismissed it because the company that makes it is a shitter factory, and I especially despise their a la carte business model, but it sounds really good. Neural seems to always have too much fucking bass on their models.

@manicmusician1974 - 13.09.2023 12:05

One thing I can't get my head around is that profiling amps and amp modellers are all in digital bits. The problem here is that when you start going from 24,32,64 or even 16 bit and back. you need a dither to shape the added noise being created from numbers not rounding of in full bits. Also changing sample rates and sample rate conversation can make these and other problems. Using these digital Amp's as reamps really makes this a problem. Is it a problem? Well when you look at the fact that guitar music is not in fashion makes me think. Is guitar music to processed these days. I mean as an engineer these Amps are breaking every rule your not meant to brake and to keep the sound enjoyable for the listener you just don't break. Don't get me wrong I use a profiler to. Haha. I just wonder.

Umm, I own everything that has been thrown against Kemper, and Kemper still wins. There's nothing that can compare, and now that they've introduced the liquid profiling, your monetary videos on subpar devices shall be diminished. These comments about the Tonex "crushing" Kemper are laughable, at best.

Bought a Tonex and returned it. I paid $1100 for my powered Kemper. It has a power amp, effects and MBritt profiles, what else would I need? For $100 more I got a 10 footswitch mid controller. Oh, forgot to mention that Liquid Profiling is already on beta for the Kemper. Yeah, the Tonex is great for $400, but Kemper has a ton of features, a huge community and has been used for a lot of big artists as well.

Well, there is something that cannot be yet surpased, and it is the kemper reliability, there is no a single reliability problem on the kemper side and its an equipment more than 10 years old. Another thing is that the kemper is already an ecosystem and a well tought out, the kemper kab is marvelous, the kemper management of amp parameter (not tone stack, but I will come to that), and the way it separates the cab part from the amp part, is wonderfully realized and not as well implemented by others. But the cherry on top, its it keeps evolving, liquid profiling sounds like a silly marketing ploy, but now we have it on our hands it changes the game, a liquid profile can be your be all end all for your favorite amp.

ToneX does not contain the profiler... you need a PC with an additional software and lots of time.
ToneX does not contain many effects, while Kemper in the meantime contains so many high quality effects.
ToneX has no routing options at all.
and so on...
Kemper making Profiles is an Art... but you still get the best profiles, if you invest money.
I hoped for falling used prices for Kemper, when the ToneX came out, to get a 2nd Kemper... but still 1200 EUR+... this makes clear what Kemper users think.

I think I prefer the Quad Cortex the most. It's got a nice crunch, and the clarity is definitely there with solid bass and a good mid scoop, whereas the ToneX also has the crunch, but I think the mid scoop on the ToneX is a bit much. The Kemper is just flat. No bass, no mid scoop, no treble. Just sounds like it's playing through cardboard.

Hey Glenn, I just got a Tonex and am already packing up some of my smaller amps I had purchased to try different tones to sell off but i am having trouble deciding on the best option for getting that "amp in the room" sound out of my Tonex. I have been into amp modeling for years but bought amps again a few years ago because i hated playing through my computer. A lot of people are in the "power amp and guitar cab" camp and the more research i do a lot of people are in the "powered FRFR" space especially with how some of them like the Laney LFR212 and Line 6 Powercab are being made to look and feel like guitar cabs. Do you have any thoughts on this?

You act as though having delay and reverb is an insignificant difference. Okay, so what?? My question is, how have you not noticed the only thing that drives product markets are the insignificant details! Like didn't you build your computer recently? Doesnt matter, you can understand the concept regardless. Cause anyone who has built a computer recently probably used a core i7 chip. But why? The performance gain over a new Core i5 is what it is. Is it worth the hundreds of extra dollars that will be spent cause of the MB also needed?Well, that depends. Are you okay with paying the difference to get the difference? If yes, than its worth it. If not, than its not. Now dont get me wrong. This is a great product. But so isn't the most basic BMW. the difference between the base i5 and a fully loaded BMW i5 is over $20,000. And not one dollar of that $20,000 dollars goes into making the car a better car. Its the same exact car, heated seats and a touch screen GPS wont improve the performance of the car. And as you said, the tone difference is irrleivant as no one could tell the difference. So why are you making the argument over priced based on how these products perform? Cause no one is out there thinking the kemper sound is worth $1,200 more than tonex. So what could they possibly looking at that makes them decided they want the kemper? Well, I suppose they are looking at all the things you didn't even address or pay any attention to cause you write off the nuance difference as being a rediculous reason to pay more money for something. For reference though, do you know what separates the Helix Flagship and the Helix LS? $500 dollars. And that $500 is only I/O connections. Everything else is exactly the same. I think there is a far bigger difference in the hardware of the kemper and the tonex than just I/O. and if I/O are $500 dollar difference the kemper actually starts to look like a very reasonable, if not an actually price deal!
