Can'tget myself around the fact that not tipping is, in general, considered a mistake... I mean, I understand if you're talking about ppl at the hotel you're staying cause you'll see them everyday, but at a bar?? Taxi? And 20% minimum? That's just crazy
ОтветитьThat food looks disgusting. I invented my own dish. I slice the giant banana and fry it. Then I put blackberries, raspberries, blueberries on it and eat it. I am addicted to blackberries. The best ones come from Louisiana and michoacan
ОтветитьYou already made a mistake by going there
ОтветитьGlad I found your videos. Taking our first visit to NYC in February and the do's and don'ts are a huge help.
ОтветитьShould I leave my Red Sox cap at home during my visit?
ОтветитьHand sanitizer? Grow up
ОтветитьGreat tips
Ответить😂 they are called newsstands, not "stands" geez
Ответитьlol, tipping!
Ответитьlol @tipping someone making a coffee. Now I’ve heard everything.
ОтветитьI bring hand sanitizer everywhere.
ОтветитьI’d like to correct You on the $1 per drink tip. Bartenders get the SAME 20% a waiter gets. It’s 20% per drink, just like at a table. $1 is less than 20% of even the cheapest drinks.
Tip accordingly
Do the planners you suggest do food? This time I’m coming just for the food! ❤️
ОтветитьNEVER VISIT NYC, The biggest swamp in The World.
ОтветитьNot sure where you got the idea that “Lower Manhattan” is the term that locals use. It is used for course, but “Downtown” is much more common. Lower Manhattan is used more if it is the area below 14th St, but the financial district is always referred to as downtown.
ОтветитьThe problem i have with tipping is, it seems like you have to tip every where which ends up getting expensive.
ОтветитьI would think #1 would be to simply not go there!
ОтветитьOMG don’t stop at the top of the subway steps, especially to take a picture.
Something that’s worked well for me visiting NYC is to ask the server or cashier at an eatery what their favorite meal at the place is and then get that.
Is it safe to travel alone? I have no one to go with and am looking to go next summer
ОтветитьI believe showing prices without tax is a scam.
ОтветитьLost me at tips, american things hey
ОтветитьRecorded horizontally:)
ОтветитьGreat tips! 😊
ОтветитьDo not drive in NYC with a rental car or any car if you are visiting.
Ответитьlast time I took a NYC cab from JFK to the hotel. On the day of my departure I asked the receptionist to call me a taxi to get to the airport and a black one arrived few minutes later. Same flat far to get to JFK, so we decided to take it. Upon arrival we were surprised that we had to pay cash and no option to pay with card ...
ОтветитьAs a Native Born New Yorker from the State and City too. Renting out a car service for the cheapest set price no contracts with no expensive fees for every little the thing. Go the CC Rental Car. Courier Car Rental company. In New York City and New Jersey best rates for 4 door cars and mini vans to Vans to Delivery work box truck vehicles as well.
ОтветитьYep.. I'm one of those that got ripped off by a hot dog vendor. $25 for 2 small hot dogs and 2 sodas. 😱
I paid $22 for 2 chicken and rice meals with 2 sodas at a halal cart.
Worse thing about hand sanitizer is it's not a good as proper hand washing because it doesn't get rid of flu particles.
Ответить... BACKSLASH,,, Really 🙂
ОтветитьI went to high school on Hoyt-Schermerhorn and for the last 43 years I have been mispronouncing it. LOL! I say SKERMER- HORN. ha ha. Who knew?
ОтветитьWO HOP !!!!!
ОтветитьHey what’s wrong with being a tourist…..isn’t that why we travel to not feel like a fucking local…..this dude always saying hey kids let’s go on vacation but let’s live like the locals…..you gonna do that for Jamaica too???? I don’t wanna be local or blend in…..I wanna be what I am on vacation and a tourist…..sorry us folks from the south don’t blend in with you New Yawkers!!!!! But we also don’t wanna blend in….i do t want anyone to ever think I’m a local in the big apple…..dude probably says the same thing for every place….stop trying to be locals be on vacation and enjoy it folks…..you are a tourist not a local
Ответитьif you visit nyc during the summer always carry a umbrella in your bag random after thunderstorms happen a lot
ОтветитьHand sanitiser 🙄
ОтветитьFirst visit to nyc back in march from uk and i can honestly say the people were lovely very helpfull and easy to chat to never felt unsafe once why there me and my daughter split up for one day no problem for either of us
Ответитьanyone reading this the food vendors right outside of Penn station are notorious for overcharging
Ответить#5 — I’m glad I’m a big, burly man. I might not have enough leg room on an airplane, but nobody ever hassles me in public. Even in Manhattan. If anyone ever tries to hassle you, go stand next to a guy like me. I can put a stop to that behavior without even saying anything.
ОтветитьHow about: standing in the middle of the street or sidewalk, gawking, chatting, generally moving slowly, ignoring sidewalk etiquette while the locals are getting annoyed with having to dodge the oblivion.
Ответить#7 - here's a pronunciation challenge: How would you pronounce Gough street in San Francisco?
ОтветитьI grew up in NYC and never learned to drive until I left in my mid 20s. To this day I never drive when I'm in any city and I quit driving completely 12 years ago.
ОтветитьWhen i'm at a restaurant, I don't tip...period. Only when i'm feeling generous but other than that, I almost never tip. Tipping is good if someone is providing you a long extended service...like a haircut for example. All a waiter/waitress does is wright down your order, take a few steps to the kitchen, grab the food (which they didn't prepare for you) and take the same few steps back to your table, but with your food. What am I tipping here? Walking? I can grab the food from the kitchen myself if walking is the essential criteria that ignites the tipping system. If anything, I'd tip the chef's who actually COOKED my food before the waiter/waitress. It's not my problem the restaurant they work at doesn't include an hourly wage for them and it's also not my problem that they CHOSE to take on that job KNOWING THAT INFORMATION in the first place😂Tipping is NOT an obligation no matter how strongly some of the general American public may feel its "morally correct" to do. So to anyone who isn't American...DO NOT TIP if you don't want to. If you want to tip out of generosity, go right ahead...nothing is wrong with that. But what IS WRONG however, is feeling obligated or pressured to tip...and THAT is where you should draw the line.
ОтветитьI stopped when I heard the LGBTQ
ОтветитьWhen you use sanitizer - clean nails and between fingers too.
ОтветитьBorn at Mount Sinai hospital in1951, have been living in my 2 bedroom rent stabilized on East 27th Street. Manhattanite all my life. Landlord bought out my lease for a whole bunch of $$. Bought house in Philly
ОтветитьAlso a bigggggg tip to tourists......dont go to Times Square....all it is is expensive
ОтветитьAlso tell the tpurist to go to the bronx go to brooklyn look at the real ny
ОтветитьDude, John, you are so right in your advise..! Visited NYC last week and followed your tips. Bleeckerstreet pizza, subway-tips, planning, ect. My friend fell in the overpriced-hotdog-scam, at the stand across the street from the Entrepid Carrier museum. 5 hotdogs and 3 water: $59 (!) Crazy. Ask price beforehand.
ОтветитьComing to New York for new years in December for the first time, thank you for the tips and also great content.
