dCS Bartok Review - Smooth, too smooth

Came here just because of the recent lawsuit video. Greetings of Barbara Streisand to dCS. Solely because of your way of treating the community = possible customers, your immoral business ethics will spread even farther then weak products.

Too many other reviewers disagreed with the comments on this channel to put me off wanting to buy one.Hell,I’d even gone and demoed one at my local dealer and was ready to go ahead with the purchase….not anymore.DCS can kiss my black ass….I’m not actually black but wanted to sound a bit like Ice Cube(oh Christ,I hope he’s not gonna try and bring a law suit against me).
Anyway it looks like it could be a Tambaqui for me and average sounding streamer for me.

dCS is sueing over this? Over what? An honest review? I hope that guy who runs the Audio Science Review channel hasn't reviewed any dCS products - he could be in trouble too!

Imagine wanting to sue a reviewer to bully them into changing their opinion, but absolutely Streisand-ing yourself instead.

It would be better if dCS would think about how they make a better sounding DAC in China for $150, rather than threatening to sue an independent channel for a subjective opinion. And if they can't take negative criticism, then stop giving independent testers products, settle for those who are paid handsomely to give good ratings.

How do you make people watch a 2 year old video. You threaten the reviewer with a lawsuit.

15 grand for a DAC.... As someone who predominantly uses monitors/speakers, there is no way this would be more transparent than the THD from the speakers, or room distortions.
This class of audio products is snake oil to me, regardless of the brand.

At no point is a DAC worth 15000.

How on earth can dCS find any grounds for suing for this video? It feels like a very balanced and objective review and there's no one point where I could say "aha, libel!". Ultimately it seems to me they're finding the personal opinion of the reviewer not to their liking so they're trying to bully him.

I wouldn’t buy one, because, that price, is ridiculous. Even when I had disposable income, I would not have been able to afford it. Hum gear or eat. No thanks.

With respect, I think one of the problems you were having with this DAC is your music choices as shown in the video. The most important quality of my audio system is the tonality/timbre (how do individual instruments sound and do they sound like the real thing) for example a bluegrass quintet, a jazz quartet and a string quartet are all made up of acoustic instruments playing in real space, there is nothing electronic about them. We all know what an acoustic guitar sounds like or a trumpet (eg Chet Baker, Miles Davis). You state that the Bartok has very good timbre and that the sound staging is good. Do you assess all DACs with the same type of music. If so then your opinion has some weight for that type of music. You also stated that voice was good. Voice is one of the first sounds we all heard; our mother’s voice. This and other dCS DAC s have been upgraded since this was first published with the APEX. Nevertheless other major print publications have published reviews that are not in accord with your views. [ Perhaps in the future do not rely as much on headphones for your listening judgements and maybe use a reasonably good floor standing speaker as that is likely how many potential buyers of the dCS DACs would be using the product.]
