Hmm, the Sega CDX isnt there. It is not a portable machine because it need the power supply to play games, so it is an home console. One of the coolest console ever actually, so small, resolving most of the Sega CD ergonomy issues including having 1 power supply for both the genesis and sega cd, faster load time.

dude i had a Vtech Vsmile as a kid which was honestly just poor decision making for my mother because my brother had a ps2 and i would mostly just play that instead because it was just not even a comparison fun wise i think i actually turned on and used the Vsmile maybe a total of 2 times

Decent ranking. Most are fairly accurate, although the sega dreamcast is ranked 13 too low. So far ahead of its time, it had features no other console would have for another generation.

Havung the PS3 and Xbox 360 above the SNES is just wrong. SNES way more influential and stronger game libraries.

The Famicom/NES had been on the market 4 years not 2 when the Turbo Grafx-16 came out.

I learned about consoles I didn't know existed apart from the most popular ones known today and the ones known in the 90s but I disagree with the last 3 Xbox 360 should be at number 3 and ps3 should be at number 2 as it has completely outsold that console bodied it in the long run I never jumped ship even when all my friends did.

I'm an Atari 2600 kid, it was legendary in my eyes. I remember begging my dad for one but we didn't have a lot of money and, to be quite honest, he didn't really understand the whole game console idea. One day he came home with a giant box and inside it were two Atari 2600s and 53 games. To this day, 53 is still my lucky number. Apparently, my dad was at a garage sale in an affluent neighborhood looking for golf clubs and he found this box of goodies, which he bought for $10. The owner's son had gotten into big trouble and the dad was selling all his stuff to make a point...ouch. Needless to say, I became a very popular kid in the neighborhood. I remember seeing Super Mario on the NES for the first time and absolutely loosing my mind, it was a game changer. I was lucky that there were several other kids in my hood that were gamers as well so I got exposed to many of these systems: NES, SNES, Genesis, TurboGrafix 16, Neo Geo and many others. The one system that really stood out to me during this time was the Sega Genesis, I remember cutting yards so I could buy it, I was mesmerized by the Altered Beast commercial. I had countless hours of fun playing NBA Jam, Sonic the Hedgehog and Mortal Kombat (with blood!).

When I went to college in the late 90s I lived in a 250 sq ft efficiency apartment and I ended up with a Sega Saturn, which I bought at a pawn shop. I ordered a modem that plugged into the top port (Toys R Us had to order it from Japan) and I got an adapter for the second controller port, which allowed me to use a keyboard. The web browser was a CD and I remember there was only one internet service provider in Houston at that time that would support the setup. I remember surfing the web in 97' on my Sega Saturn and playing chess on sites like Caissa. In my opinion, the Sega Saturn was the most revolutionary system of all time. Later on, I used to buy used Dreamcasts from flea markets, fix them, and repackage them with games and controllers (anyone that knows the boot loader trick knows what I am talking about right now), which helped subsidize the income of a poor college student. Then of course, the original XBOX and Halo, a truly great time in my life. I remember countless LAN parties at my house, my friends bringing their own TV with them in the backs of the hoopties. Good times. I took a long break from gaming but I got back in a few years ago with the XBOX One S and I only play Call of Duty these days.

Truly great times in my life were spent with good friends around a console. I appreciate the ability to network with anyone in the world in an instant but it's just not the same as crushing your friend in Tecmo Super Bowl and watching his face in real-time. Long live the game console!

I know it's fun to dunk on the Jaguar but I legit had way more fun with it than I ever did with the gamecube.

Commodore 64 being #63 is am absolute joke. Should be top 10. I guess you are just making something go further down the list once a new console is released because, well it's newer. Pretty poor. You should be taking into account what was around at the time and what it introduced that hadn't been done before.

The reason why the PS2 had such a meteoric level of success at least at the beginning was because like the Wii it wasn't marketed toward gamers, it was marketed as a DVD player

I was sad not to have gone this time around because of missing the last one but I always seem to be busy when events are on unfortunately. Those boards games are wicked, havnt seen them in a UK video before, and that snes box puncture wound is surely something ol’ Tooty can sort out!

Ugh, well as much as it's an impressive effort to collate all of these (and well done guys for that!), it's much as I anticipated for the top 5, unfortunately, with the Sony consoles dominating. The PS3 at number 3 of all time? No chance! I personally wouldn't even have the PS3 and Xbox 360 in the top 10. I'd have the PS2 and PS1 there, but not in the top 5.

I'm not going to argue with the whole list in its entirety, because I haven't even heard of many of them, but my own top 20 would be (and some of them below the top 10 change occasionally):

I'll stress that I've omitted certain consoles either because I haven't played them much or at all, or I just can't appreciate them like the machines of the past. Obsession with movie-like graphics and online play has meant gameplay is sacrificed in my experience. It's not all about sales and popularity (most kids at school raved about the Megadrive and PS1 even if they'd never played a SNES or Saturn, which were superior in my view). Lists like these can never be definitive anyway, because the whole argument is subjective.

Playstaion 1, Super Nintendo, Neo Geo, Xbox 360, Dreamcast and Sega Genesis... those are the most important consoles in Gaming History... My personal favorite EVER is the Super Nintendo...

I have a much easier method to rank consoles, it's a 2 step method:
- If I own them then it means I want to play them, so they're the BEST.
- If I don't own them then I don't want to play them or they're too expensive, so they're the WORST.
And it only took a few seconds.

DVD, downwards compatibility with PS1 games and controllers, high quality product, real good graphics stil holding up to today......

The PS2 is a masterpiece of technology and if you have anything to blame with this console I would say that the controllers are its biggest downside whether original or inofficial ones they are meant to break after a while ( I myself own 4 more or less broken and only 1 good controller theese days) The PS2 is stil my number 1 offscreen DVD Player even after 20 years and if anything it was the pinnacle of Sonys developenment. I stil own a PS3 and I even use it more frecently to play PS1 games for example for obvious reasons (upscaled graphics and memory space) but I prefer DVDs over BluRay disks and the game library speaks for itself.

PS3 did good stuff charge free online mode and multiplayer, the allready mentioned BluRay player and the PS3 controller is great as well however when it comes to games after they changed back from offering the PS2 games compatibility there was a big rabit hole why it would not succeed anymore. While it had its own great titles the PS3 is also known for murdering a few established series in some way like Final Fantasy because of how bad FF13 as a game is or rather how boring than bad, Armored Core 4 Answers was a lowpoint for me and with no Spyro or Crash Bandicoot releases the PS3 had lost a lot of their fanbase as well mostly to the Wii later on. Main reason for this was that the PS3 was designed for Teenagers and young adults rather than beeing a kid friendly console this was basically one way why X-Box and PS3 couldn't get rid of Nintendos Game Cube and Wii consoles. And they also fought the painful fight over graphics and hardware which is a dumb decission in my opinion while Nintendo learnt from SEGAs mistakes in their battle and stopped the fight over those terms for other ways in defining their own entety.

Meanwhile the Switch is basically owned by nearly every household in europe while PS5 and X-BOX Series X fight for a console market that is getting attacked by PC and all because there is no real reason to own a console for exclusiv titles anymore with most of the mentioned big game exclusives allready been available for PC nowadays (even most of them have some port issues like lags)

The future of consoles is basically a fight over their own identity and only Nintendo succeeds in having one. This doesn't mean that the other console manufactures doesn't evolve in some ways but as the X-Box more and more represents a PC and shares their streaming model with the PC as well the Playstation improves in Sound and periphery evolvement and is at least a good competeter with the VR market unfortunately they stil lack the games to nourish VR.
