It's possible that using the Force, Palpatine manipulated midichlorians in Shmi resulting in the birth of Anakin as the intent to form a being more susceptible to the Dark Side, making him Anakin's creator, not father. He could be a father figure, just not the other main contributor to a natural birth. Just as Plagius attempted to form a being out of nothing but midichlorians. Plagius failed because you can't create such a being out of nothing and he wasn't as strong as some of the more powerful beings of the Star Wars lore.

I'd say that the return of Palpatine in The Rise of Skywalker created a problem for Anakin's background story, including the part on who actually created Anakin by influencing the midichlorians.

At the time Revenge of the Sith was released, it became clear thd either Darth Plagueis or someone connected to him would have been responsible for thd creation of Anakin. Plagueis was said to have been the only one who had mastered the power of life creation through midichlorians, as well as 'cheating death'. Also, on the home media releases of Episode III, George Lucas clearly states that Sidious is lying to Anakin about everything he promises to discover together with them. And then there is this assumption of mine that one of the main reasons for Sidious to kill Plagueis was he would be disgusted about such 'noble' things as creating life, and not just life, but the life of a seemingly sincere young boy who wanted to free other slaves, help the ones in need and someone who 'didn't know anything of greed' (according to his mother), but most of all one who intially didn't seek power (which is the first priority and goal for Sith, according to their code). With that said, I wouldn't think that Sidious would accept such a seemingly noble and non-agressive deed from any Sith, including his master, let alone that he would commit those things himself. And finally, there is the way Sidious returns in The Rise of Skywalker. If Sidious is the one who was so powerful and gifted that he learned everything his master knew and was able to conceive Anakin through the Force that way, then why in the name of Exogol did he just attempt to clone himself? He just could have performed the same trick as he did with Anakin and put all Sith spirits inside of the result, possessing them. Looking at the clone he made, I'd think that would have been safer than the deformed clone that looked like a failed experiment. Also on a side note, Sidious being Anakin's creator creates another question. If he is Anakin's father this way, and he's also Rey's grandfather, then what exactly is Rey actually to Anakin, and why wouldn't this relation be mentioned or discussed in the sequel movies?

All of the above caused the revelation of Sidious having created Anakin to make very little sense to me, and frankly I think that no comic or novel, neither canon nor legends will cause it to make (much) more sense than the movie saga as a whole do. Disney may have revealed Sidious as Anakin's creator, but as far as the logic behind the story in the Episode movies go, or all canon material for that matter, Plagueis as Anakin's creator makes more sense. I do understand that thd shole masterplan put in motion was Sidious', but the story itself points to Plagueis as the most logical one to be the creator of Anakin, for the reasons I mentioned.
