China has clearly managed to modernise it's Muslim population. Very few to no burka, no hijab, no topi, every one looks like modern Chinese and both men and women work out side home.Well done China. Indian Muslims need to see and learn from this. Progress comes from education and development and not from Islam. The Masjid was almost empty during Eid prayers and that tells you something, how they are more progress interested than religious fanaticism interested! I have become a fan of the Chinese government. Huis are Mandarin Chinese Muslims. They are ethnically Han Chinese with intermixing. Infact Han Chinese themselves are not a homogeneous ethnicity as the mainstream tend to claim. It’s a linguistically and culturally a very diverse group of people. You will find Huis mostly in Ninxia , Gansu, and Qingai provinces.

As a trivia when People’s republic of China annexed Republic of East Turkishtan the invading Chinese army was lead by a Hui Ma Zhanchang!

Uyigurs are Turkic , not Turkish. They are not same.

All Turkish have some turkic gene and speak a Turkic language, but not all turkic people are Turkish and they speak over hundred different minor and major languages belonging to Turkic language family. Turkic language family itself part of Altaic Super Family to which Mongolian languages and Tungistic languages belong.

Turkish people are a mix of Persian, Anatolian and many Eastern European assimilation. Turkish come from the Oguz confederacy to which even Bulgarians belong. Oguz itself a strong mix of Iranian/ indo-European mixed with turkic tribes and originate from the eastern coast of Caspiam sea.

Turkish of Turkey have only 10 to 20% turkic gene pool. Uyigurs come from. Kurlik Turks to which even the Russian Yakutz belong. Their languages belong to Turkic family of languages! Uyigurs are genetically more turkic than Turkish Turks.

There is a small but officially recognized minority ethnic group in China who also come from Oguz confederacy is called Salar. Salars speak a Turkic language very close to Turkish. Xinjiang also has some Tadjiks and Pamirs ..both along with Salar would look more Aryan than Chinese.

Xinjiang is also the original homeland of Mughalistan, from which Babur’s ancestors come. Babur is partly turkic and chagatai mongol.
