Hey Becky just something to add to your method here, there’s a free oscilloscope called psyscope that allows you to analyze the waveforms of 2 signals simultaneously, that helps a lot when you’re trying to get your kick and sub in alignment!

This video is absolutely good and deserves tens of thousands more views. Super underrated production technique, thanks!

I love your content because you explain things very clearly and don't go too fast so that I have to keep pausing the video, but you dont go so slow that I get bored and fall asleep. I also appreciate when you zoom into the specific settings. I have a track and need to fix up my kick drum and my lead synths and once I get past that wall I will start the "mixing phase" finally... These videos are very helpful. What I'm learning is that this stuff is some weird cross between creative/music and engineering work. Tough in the short run, but probably a lot of fun in the long run!

Somehow I missed this video when it was originally posted (you linked to it from the Kick 2 review)! Soooooooooo helpful!! Especially to warn about the phase cancellation aspect. TLDR: You make, I watch, I learn, I thank!! 🙏🏾👍🏾👍🏾🙏🏾

I usually use distortion to give it more punch but this trick is a whole lot better!

Happy Birthday, Becky. How kind of you to gift us on your bday.. I needed this one ,too. Especially the part you talked about using the utility plug to address polarity issues. It’s always good to use stock plugins where applicable so many thanks and cheers! 🎂 🎉

That's a cool tip! I'll have to try this with one of my other "third-party plug-in suppliers."

Good one Becky :-) ....just interested to know if you used this with a sub bass line how you would go about separating the new beefed up kick with the sub bass line ?

Good explanation!

Good video;
Also, worth looking at tweaking/considering the look-ahead on the gate; So it opens up bang on when that transient from the initial kick hits;

Great trick! Just one nerdy comment: Adjusting the Attack in Operator won´t affect the punchness throughout the the sustained note, because Operator is just triggered once. This is done solely by the noise gate. But anyway this is really a great and easy way to get more ooomph in the lower ranges..... Keep them comming Becky. I really like You easy to follow and allways helpfull tuts....
