Lotus Elise old v new: Series 1 and Series 3

S1 for me, every single time. Time less design and super driver focused

One other difference that you won't notice if you haven't driven both is the airflow. In the S1 the air goes nicely over your head, protecting the driver. In the S3 there's an annoying and uncomfortable draft down the back of your head and neck. Not nearly so nice in cool weather. Downright nasty when it's cold.
But driving a Lotus is never about the creature comforts.

I was watching that Pomie series 'At home withthe Braithwates' The Matriarch bought the Lesbian daughter a yellow series one, I was instantly in love (with the Elise not the daughter) So i did some research then I discovered the Series 2! I found one in the seaside town of Rye in Southeast Victoria. It was $25K without a roadworthy certificate because it needed a new alternator. I bought it fixed it and loved it for 6 years then sold it, bought a very nice SLK350 Mercedes but there was just no comparison. I sold that and bought my second green series 2 Elise. The Lotus philosophy "add lightness".

i wud have bought a elise long ago if it only didn't cost as much as a carbon 4c, cayman or a110. still looking for a decently priced used one.

I worked at the Lotus factory for 15 years, two of those years 97-99; I was in the paint shop, so would have worked on that S1

Lotus Elise's have the same running gear as the MGF/TF but it's a much better car. plus it'snicer looking and more reliable than the MGF/TF since Lotus managed to iron out the bugs on the K Series engine.

Series 4 is looking great with the turbo and move to a V6. Great that the price is also the same and even the weight down with the move to carbon. Go Lotus. Peace to my negros.

The S1 is still my pick. Looks that hasn't aged it one bit against the S3, if anything like a fine wine the S1 is getting better with age.

Nice video! I really like the fact that you've found two cars with similar colors. That looks very well on screen. I've only driven an s2 111R myself. Really curious what the differences with an s1 and s2 would be. Keep up the good work!

i have two the series two( 2005 111R) and the series three(2010) out of the two the series two is my preferred model

I've had loads of cars and my S1 (tuned) is unlike anything I've driven. It is SO chuckable and rev happy. It's amazing.

Oof that road looks wonderful. Wish I could test drive an S3 there.

As an everyday driver S2 owner, the S3 looks so much better.

I think the S1 looks better than the S3. The S2 beats them both on looks just. But still love some S1's.
