I think destroying the thingie in Marie Jois to declare war was important as a symbol to the world. The revolutions they planned to start across the world needed kindling, which an official declaration of war provided. Yes, the world knew that the revolutionaries and WG were at odds before this, but declaring war showed them that 1. the revolutionaries are a very real thing that managed to enter Marie Jois and do real damage and 2. shit just hit the fan. And the revolutionaries need the support of the world to cut off their supply routes. Destroying their supplies does them no good if they can just get new ones.
