The center console is to high it rubs on my knee cap and it’s on a sharper angle which was deal breaker for me.

Very disappointing to hear the clings and clanks together with the negs. For this price Im going elsewhere

Good vid. Trying to figure out why spare wasn’t mounted centrally against back of cab and include a reverse mirror camera. Cost maybe? This vehicle is certainly on my list.

The rated 1.7 L/100klm is basically irrelevant. It’s only pertinent to the first 100klm’s and after a full charge. After that it’s about 8-9 L/100klm. The power train is far superior to the BYD Shark with a proper 4WD setup giving it superior off road capabilities. It does however require 95RON petrol which adds about 10 cents to every litre consumed.

Until they fix that spare wheel, integrate the tow bar and sort out the servicing costs I think some sales will not happen.

I agree you’d be better getting the hev for $10k less with the exact same interior and a spare wheel and tow bar in the right place

Not a fan of GWM copying all interior design from a luxury SUV into a rugged Ute, piano black, clock design and fake timber just doesn’t look right on a Ute. Also that spare wheel defeated all purposes of adding accessories onto the tub

Why not have an integrated roof rack and mount the tyre up there.

Sounds impressive, especially at this price! That said looking forward to the Tank 700 coming to Oz with more power, greater ev range and air suspension!

I get it, a lot of people will be impressed by the amount of technology available. To me they do little but divert driver attention from the role of controlling the vehicle. I’m showing my age but I like the simplicity of getting in my Hilux, starting it up and getting on with my trip.

Have the spare wheel hooked to the back like the jeep. Looks neat and out of the way. A spare wheel carrier mounted on if thats whats it called. Maybe the right side of the back side door where ever its looks good.

It may be full of new age tech, but it doesn’t have any 240 volt power points in the tub for a fridge etc.

Thanks for a great review! I note that both the Lux and Ultra PHEV claim a GVM of 2810kg however in the diesel version of the Cannon Alpha, the Lux is 61kg lighter than the diesel version Ultra. It looks like this can be explained by the fact that the Lux has a lighter tailgate, no skylight, no remote opening rear window and a few other bits and bobs that might reduce weight such as no front diff lock and no motorized self folding mirrors etc.
Would I be correct in assuming that the Lux PHEV is also lighter by a similar amount therefore giving it a slightly more respectable load capacity of around 750kg?
If this be the case I would definitely opt for the Lux especially since my primary use would to tow a van of around 3000kg loaded while installing a ute canopy and drawers in the tub etc.

Absolutely love it and the best phev ute in Australia right now.

The electric adjusting heated and cooling rear seats are fantastic and an absolute game changer for rear passengers in a ute.

I definitely want one!!!

Up to now, GWM is still being disassembled and modeled after Toyota. Moreover, the quality of its engine and transmission is extremely poor, and Ukraine designates Great Wall Motor as war sponsor.👎👎👎

Put the spare tyre under or behind the rear seat. Where it is now, it prevents anyone from using tray covers, which many owners want.

Why would you mention something in a video and try to bring it down if you are not sure about what its purpose is? Do your research to find what a split tail gait helps with. You obviously have no experience using tailgaits, I can tell.

Just don't buy one from Southgate GWM in Adelaide. Terrible warranty and after sales service.

Does it have power socket outlet in the rear tub so able to plug in power tools, etc?
Has there been a better towbar designed, one that hides up under/behind the rear bumper? The pre-prod towbar hangs so low, making the departure angle seriously compromised.

Why no electronic roller cover, towbar or roll bar...

Kind of looks naked without a roll bar

We are definitely considering purchasing this vehicle for towing a caravan on very hilly twisty Tasmanian roads, and as a second around town EV runabout for daily short runs for my husband, to complement my GWM Ora EV. When both vehicles are charged on solar panels, it’s a no brainer.
