Summer was so gifted. I loved her beam routine. I believe she was the beam NCAA champion twice during her time at Utah.

I hate the current beam code because the majority of these connections would not be credited today. It's actively pushing against any kind of ingenuity or desire to do something difficult.

Leaps, rings, and the destruction of non-rebounding acrobatic connections killed beam. Donatella Sacchi clearly favors white/European, young, thin, and flexible gymnasts (she has favorites outside of this description but major fall into this mold). It’s evident from her rhetoric and from her work as WTC President. She has confused the aforementioned description of gymnasts with being synonymous with “aRtIsTrY” (like amny gymfans). She has made an incredible effort to decrease acrobatics in gymnastics to see her preferred style rise to the top and win. Little does she know, she’s killing the sport and turning it into a pathetic discount version of rhythmic gymnastics. Difficult acrobatics and expressive dance are NOT mutually exclusive, but that hasn’t stopped her from discouraging any kind of acrobatic difficulty or risk through deductions on crack (rip arabian, Shishova, and LONG, COMPLEX, UNIQUE, and RISKY connections on BB) or devaluation into oblivion (rip extremely difficult vaults like Amanar). I knew beam was dead when Viktoria Listunova got the highest execution score on BB at the Olympic games and one of the highest BB scores of the Olympic games.

Gymnasts these days are just not as good at beam as their predecessors, it’s the only event where I argue the execution and difficulty both have gone down significantly
