Labor doesn't see defence as a 'real election winner'

Agenda C Managing Director Parnell Palme McGuinness says Labor "clearly" doesn't see defence as a "real election winner" for their party.

Ms McGuinness said Labor wants to be a "me too" party on this, "rather than going out ahead".

"The typical, sort of, soft Labor vote will actually move votes away based on too heavy an emphasis on defence and defence spending," she told Sky News Australia.

"That's an advantage for the government in an election where the Ukraine war has, of course, put a bit more of a focus on Ukraine."
