It was 1987/8. Senior year in high school. Parents had moved 4 hours away over the summer, but I was able to return to the town I had called home since 8th grade, staying with my aunt, uncle, and cousins. I had gotten a portable "boom box" for Christmas and my cousin had gotten the Hysteria album on CD. We often listened to it, along with other '80s albums I had gotten from Columbia House for 1¢, while playing pool in the basement game room. This song, in particular, often evokes a combination of emotions—happiness, sadness, loneliness, love, fear, anticipation—as the teen years were difficult, dealing with undiagnosed depression and anxiety, along with all the other "difficulties" of those adolescent years. But I made it through and can still enjoy the music that defined that decade. 😎

I lost my husband this morning . He had stage 4 colon cancer. This was one of his favorite songs. He still was able to mouth the words yesterday. You brought joy to my husband. We saw you in Columbus and Cleveland. I'm glad he has this memory.
