I don't think they wanted to show "the power of love" but more like how everything can be faked. Mr Oldman was incredible in recognizing fake paintings but couldn't see the fake emotions

Sometimes there are some classic movies that stays forever in your heart...and this one is one of them...absolutely amazing...

why isn't this movie on top of most lists? i knew tornatore is a great director from malena or cinema paradiso. but this is a masterpiece! so many things u can read out of the plotline. main character is truely like out of a bestseller novel. so intriguing, u hate him, u love him, u root for him u wanna see him pay for it. how is that possible in one character? thats something u first have to come up with. rarely seen in these days cinema where protagonists are either black or white. but thats tornatore- like cinema paradiso, its deeply human! and so well played by geoffrey rush, he doesn't act- he lives it every second! this movie is an experience! i see similarities to hitchcocks vertigo - older man rooting for mysterious young woman who is broken, and overcoming his own fears/habits to try to safe her. let me add a very important point here: you dont need a chris hemsworth or other eyecandy hot actor to focus on the screen. It works with an old man if the storytelling is compelling enough. And man it worked right here! never a minute i looked on my mobile. thats the power of amazing storytelling! love you, tornatore!

I saw this for the first time, such a masterpiece, with several layers. But for me the moral of the story was that a skilled and smooth deceiver was deceived even more smoothly and very painfully. Like some karmic joke of the universe. And tragedy of the story was that he got addicted to her beauty and the love what did not exist, although he knew her love towards him has been fake, his sharp and cynical mind could not delete the hope from his innocent unskilled heart.

Pity the art was so wrong and the frames were off but I suppose that most people don't know anything about art so it works. Loved the aesthetics.

No need to be sad. Dont forget that Virgil is fraud at valuation & auction with his intelligence.

The theme of the story is same as 'Now You See Me'; It could take years to set up a magic so that people can value & appreciate the outcome, but theres always someone try to ruin the moment by revealing the trick.

In the case of The Best Offer, people work hard to bid for the best collection but Virgil manipulated them.

So, the other perspective of this movie is a great revenge & a great heist!

I just finished watching it and i am amazed, even i came home from work absolutely exhausted this movie kept me awake every second of it. An absolutely masterpiece in my opinion, direction, acting, plot, photography, etc all well structured and well accomplished.
