The only reason why the mushroom blue shell dodge works is because you get a few frames of invincibility which means it’s impossible to take damage during that

I think the 2 actual purposes for the feather is 1. To go over shortcuts without mushrooms and 2. To go up in the air, do tricks and get a small speed boost. And then I guess to go over objects and red shells
