alright my gnostic friends I have a question, am I mistaken to believe current gnostic philosophy is of the opinion that all things in existence are manifestations of the mind or consciousness and as such gods and entities from antiquity are thought of not as living beings with wills all their own but rather are said to be more like aperitions conjured in the minds of men who were attempting like us all to make sense of their existence? From my studies it seems to me that early gnostics believed in the literal existence of beings of greater power that existed in a realm beyond this one but perhaps I misunderstood, if the belief has always been that everything comes from the mind then how are things like giants and other oddities that left behind a legacy through stories of their existence and even physical remains?

Have in mind that the ancient texts we got are translations made by christian priests, so they were adapted to reflect their monotheistic beliefs. There was no 1 god in ancient Egypt or Greece and they did not worship "the light" aka fire. So these invocations are just adaptations and not authentic ways the ancients celebrated Hermes. For instance, they would never say "I am in servitude to you or your slave". 😂
