EVERY NIGHT: NIGHTMARES!!

I have nobody, I'm all alone, and the suffering is immense and intense.

The pain and the panic and the terror are truly unbearable.

## Thought: Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you. (James 4:8-10) ESV.

During this past month of Devotional Thoughts, we’ve looked at David, the time he committed adultery with Bathsheba, and how he had to repent before God. We read David’s prayer of repentance in Psalm chapter fifty-one. We also looked at the life of Hezekiah and how he humbled himself before God when he realized that he had sinned. There were instances in our lives when we had come before God because of a specific sin and asked for His forgiveness. However, what we are really talking about in today’s Devotional Thought is having a lifestyle characterized by a contrite and humble heart.

“For thus says the One who is high and lifted up, who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly, and to revive the heart of the contrite” (Isaiah 57:15). The Word also says, “Seek the LORD, all you humble of the land, who do his just commands; seek righteousness; seek humility; perhaps you may be hidden on the day of the anger of the LORD” in (Zephaniah 2:3). So often, there is not much difference between how God’s children and people in the world live. This is incredibly sad.

In (1 Timothy 6:3-5) ESV, Paul says of people like this, “If anyone teaches a different doctrine and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching that accords with godliness, he is puffed up with conceit and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy craving for controversy and for quarrels about words, which produce envy, dissension, slander, evil suspicions, and constant friction among people who are depraved in mind and deprived of the truth, imagining that godliness is a means of gain.” Paul continues, “For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.” (2 Timothy 3:2-5) ESV.

Friends, may we come before God today and make things right. We are called to be an example to the world, and we must show people what it means to humbly love our God and our fellow man. Would you Pray with me?

Dear Heavenly Father, I realize that You look at my heart and judge the measure of my person, and You are not impressed by my outward appearance. Please forgive me that I am often more interested in working on the outside than in the state of my heart. I ask, Lord, search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there is any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting! In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
