Roberto Duran - Hands of Stone (Original Career Documentary)

The name "Hands of stone" came from Roberto Duran's team wrapping his hands in "Plaster of Paris" before fights. Duran's teamate Luis Resto got caught and went to prison. But Duran was protected by his management.

As a Latino I always cheered for Duran but two things turned me off to him, one was when he quit vs Leonard in the 2nd fight in the famous No Mas epic and the other was when he fought Wilfredo Benitez of Puerto Rico and talked bad about Puerto Ricans leading up to the fight, sour grapes if you ask me because it was a Puerto Rican who handed him his first defeat and Puerto Ricans always gave him a hard fight. Wilfredo Benitez schooled Duran for his remarks about Puerto Ricans and many Puerto Rican fans who once supported Duran, could not and would not align themselves with Duran again. I know he's a great fighter but I will never forget his hateful words about Puerto Ricans so you can keep this champ, we don't want him.

I remember Duran beating Iran Barkley who stopped Hearns. It quickly erased the memory of Duran getting KO'ed by Hearns.

Sugar knew the only way he could beat Duran was the same way he beat haggard.
He caught him sleeping and sucker punch the the sugar way.
All that speed and talent but had to beat someone.

I llived in Panama for 5 years. Panamanians seem to love baseball and boxing. I would see male friends greet each other by sparring around. At one time Panama had world boxing champions in two different weight divisions. Panamanians were wonderful people to be around. Fighting way out of his proper weight division eventually cause him to lose.
