On the tiny resort island of Martha's Vineyard, landscaper, Patrick Ryer, suffers from chills and high fever. Patrick has contracted Tularemia, a rare bacterial disease. Health officials alert residents and tourists who crowd the Vineyard over the summer holiday. Over the next month, ten more people are diagnosed with the disease, including other landscapers and children.

he Center for Disease Control assists federal and state health officials in their hunt for the cause. After six months of relentless investigation, researchers unravel the mystery. Those who suffered the illness have inadvertently given it to themselves. A contaminated batch of a dietary supplement sold in health food stores across the country is the culprit.

What about fertilizer or compost, something the landscapers use in their business???

Gotta wonder if they ever did tests on animal excrement? My first thought after the rabbit reveal was it could be rabbit droppings becoming airborne during mowing and releasing the bacteria. Then again I'm no scientist or epidemiologist so I could be talking complete balderdash

seems some insect repellent isn't a bad idea ... for anybody, anywhere, in summer! there as are natural ones, even homemade that aren't toxic to the humans or animals, but discourage the bugs from trying to make us into lunch.

I think I saw a found footage film based on this. It was called "The Bay" and the only real difference was you can't see the bugs irl. Even if it was a coincidence, being stuck in a situation like this would be very scary. You could be fine, but get very sick in 20 hours or less. At least with Covid, we had time. Most people didn't even come close to crashing that quickly.

Funny how those Big Pharma scientists couldn't find that dangerous pesticide which was spread all over the lawn and became aerosolized by water and the lawn mower action. Phew! That holiday resort has escaped a heavy fine and prosecution. Wow! That was lucky! lol!

Of course scientists know where the reservoir for this pathogen is. It would be absolutely ridiculously unwise to tell the public in a documentary of this sort.

i swear this sounds like what i got in yosemite, when i was like 12. high fever, headache, lathargic, throwing up, and pneumonia. i eventually asked my parents to just take me to the small clinic in the valley where we were staying. all the doctor did was tell us it was a foreign virus that dosent spread human to human, gave me antibiotics, and upped my tylenol dosage. i slept for 3 days str8 in the middle of the summer in an un insulated cabbin under a thick blanket. that doctor tho either couldnt diagnose mme, or wanted to hide the fact that i could die from this from my aprents, i, the rest of the park, and the rest of the country. lol.

How long have we been mowing grass?? How long has the disease been around? And in 2000, only 23 years ago, was the first time EVER it was transmitted through mowing grass? Although I believe the CDCs findings, I’m having a difficult time with the rest of the story. Did you know Martha's Vineyard is a mere 129 miles away from Plum Island? I’m just saying...

So they only told people to be more careful of tick bites and contact with wild animals after someone died. A letter to each company to tell them about an increase in a usually tick borne disease that might be airborne, please be extra careful could ave been sent WEEKS earlier
