I'm guessing your VPN connection isn't limited by a 2 Mbps upload speed on your aDSL connection? Can you go into more detail of what you are using Proxmox for, when it seems almost all of your apps are in TrueNAS?

Are you using TrueNAS on bare metal or as a VM on Proxmox?
And how do you use Homeassistant Development? Is this a fresh Installation or a copy of the live System?

What an awesome video, I'm planning to start my home lab but I don't know where to start, and your set up seams great. It would be great if you had like a mini series or tutorial on how to setup everything, on which order to set it up and also possible option for hardware. I have an old laptop with an i5 8200u with 16gb of ram you think it will be suitable for such application?

I am curious why you chose Homer over Homepage. What are you using to access Jellyfin from outside of your network? wireguard? I like Jellyfin but I am having a hard time leaving Plex due to Plex Amp.

For Plex on TrueNAS Scale I ended up running Plex as an Ubuntu Server VM as the native server app couldn't access SMB shares. I am aware there are workarounds (unsupported by IX) but part of the homelab fun is pushing your own boundaries, and for me this was a learning experience.

Thanks for the video!
Regarding photos backup you talk about in the video, I'm looking for a reliable way to get android photos backup, and it seems that not all the android apps works fine (asustor, nextcloud, synology...). What is the most reliable SW according to your experience?

I just upgraded my pfSense server to Plus from Community Edition, which is now free, but you have to purchase it for $0.00 from the Netgate store, and you must already have the CE already installed to upgrade it. I'm currently looking into upgrading my homelab to a Proxmox virtualization platform, but I'm not sure what hardware I should be looking for without breaking the bank. I want to have enough cores and memory to run multiple VMs (gaming servers, media server, NAS, and development servers to learn automation, networking, and coding skills).

If you get the VPN VLAN/Subnet layering right and use bridging i key places... nothing at any site in the network will have any idea it's a remote site. They will all just be one big network.

Would love a bit more in depth on where you are running this stuff?

Are you running your truenas on one box, proxmox on another? Are you using a containerised version of adguard or opnsense etc

Regarding managing your parents' house, I wonder why there aren't more services for management. Seems like there should be a market for managed HA servers. Maybe a one time setup fee, plus a monthly subscription for updates and maintenance.

regarding TrueNAS, Want a good server solution and still debating whether to use TrueNAS or Unraid (upgrade from my Synology)..... I Want to use Raid10 for my storage, I saw that TN uses Raid Z1/2/3 not Raid10 and on the other hand I heard that Unraid speedis limited to single drive speed....

Currently, I'm running windows 10 pro and Stablebit to manage 6 different sized disks for my media storage. I'm getting more and more interested in Homelab. It's setup as a JBOD that replicates specific folder for redundancy purposes. Most of the storage space isn't redundant. Is TrueNAS a good replacement for Stablebit? If not, is there an app/module that is a good replacement? If I migrated, I'd want it to be a linux core, to save the overhead that Windows creates.

Great video. I think a tutorial on how to connect 2 home’s networks and send a TV through VPN to other home would be really cool. This way I can watch shows available in my mom’s network for example.

Thank you. Took me too long to get to watch this but it's inspiring. I hope you get to do some walkthroughs of the setups, mainly Proxmox, Opnsense and TruNAS. Oh, and definitely Homer. Never heard of that kind of dashboard. I am blessed/plagued by the very same memory. Passwords, IPs and product activation codes too. Hence my home is useless to anybody but me. I have a continuous worry about what happens if I am no longer there. From a hardware point of view all switches and controls work like normal if HA goes away, but there is so much more. Really hoping you can do some tutorials. Thank you!

What's your site to site speed? Synch or asynch? Failover to remote site has always intrigued me but I've been afraid to try it. Lucky for me I've been in places with robust failsafes on-site, but it's a project that I would like to tackle.

I just recently switched to Proxmox. Initially it was an absolutely nightmare getting it stable. Between my NIC having a big quirk with a particular kernel version that would crash the server randomly and finding out the Proxmox version that would just work in general, it just wooooorks (now)! 😂 I love it!
