krakatoa was/is WEST of Java Fact check me.
ОтветитьI first saw this piece of divine trash (don't get me wrong: I have remained faithful to it for nearly half a century when I was 8 on the ABC Friday Night Movie - its influence was so profound I demanded a volcano shaped birthday cake which my mother obliged, complete with a flow of raspberry jam lava): a truly psychotic film mixing 'Around the World in 80/20 000 leagues steam punk with elements of 67's Dr. Doolittle and 64's 'The Devil at Four O'Clock' [and even a vague affiliation with 'You Only Live Twice']. I will go to the mat for this film, if only because Maximilian Schell still demonstrates what a great actor he he was and because it was Beautiful Sal Mineo's last major film. Hell, it has to be worth something if it is playing at the Cinerama Dome in 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood'. But I'm posting now is I finally saw is that I finally saw 'Marooned', winner of - and Karakatoa's only contender for - Best Visual Effects of 1969...and I have to say, 'Krak' should have one. Though the film itself, sedate, serious and at times genuinely moving and tension-filled [and well shot by Daniel Fapp], is fine, the effects in 'Marooned' are at best adequate and often awkward [they date rather profoundly to today's eye, even considering them with a sensibility of relativity]...how couldn't they be with 2001 having thrown down a near unassailable gauntlet only the year before. Sure, some scenes in 'Krak' look pretty 'modelly' - but others hold up damn well.
ОтветитьI saw this when I was 6 years old and I still remember how that giant tsunami impressed me ! I draw and sketched the scenes for weeks ! And I always wanted to watch the movie again … 50 years later or so here I am , thanks!
ОтветитьI saw this movie when I was nine with my parents in a rather large movie theater in Chicago. I always remembered it. Just loved the special effects. This is a time when movies were entertaining and not shoving some woke bs down your throats.
ОтветитьPanimbang city in Indonesia 😢
ОтветитьThank you. I must have seen this years ago but good to see it again. Greetings from Canada
ОтветитьWhere is the subtitles for the Deaf!
ОтветитьRomantic, sentimental, juvenile rubbish, and bad science. A casting nightmare, and Diane Baker's hysterics ruin the movie.
ОтветитьWith 3d sound effects and 1080 resolution, the movie would be some thing else to enjoy
ОтветитьGreat film. Great pre-computer generated effects. Probably one of the first ''disaster movies''.
''In 1883, the mail ship Governor General Loudon while captained by Johan Lindemann, was in the Sunda Strait during the eruption of Krakatoa and survived the subsequent tsunami when the captain steered the ship head on into the wave.''
Incidentally...Krakatoa is WEST of Java. Check your atlasses.
ОтветитьIm 43 and enjoying these classic movies. Beautiful work.
ОтветитьAre there any other?
ОтветитьThe Earth is really nothing else but a floating volcano in space, its spherical because in space everything is spherical, and the heat from the magma inside made organic life possible. The problem is that a giant eruption through one of the valves (volcanoes on the surface like Krakatoa) can rupture the core and mantle and Earth implodes.
ОтветитьRossano Brazzi - still the finest man on earth.
ОтветитьNice Jules Verne style adventure movie. I saw it with 'The Devil`s Brigade early in 1970 at an old style movie palace in Brooklyn N.Y. Thanks for posting it, I thought I would never see it again because it s rarely shown on TV. Enjoyed it!
ОтветитьThat’s like an old Western movie. A lot of action but no historical value. Even the title is geographically wrong and not even one actor is from the region where the set is playing. It is entertaining and spectacular in its time but a bit weird to watch today.
ОтветитьThat was the most insane volcanic explosion 🌋 in disaster flim I ever watch
ОтветитьI remember seeing this movie at the drive-in in our 1967 Pontiac Parisienne. My Dad said that Lava would come in the car through the speakers we hooked up to the car.
ОтветитьHaven't seen this for years, have to say that the special effects are pretty spectacular
Ответитьwest of Java not east
Ответитьtrès bon film dommage qu'il ne soit pas en version audio français
ОтветитьLittle known is that part of the film is made in front of Puerto de Soller, Mallorca. One of my family members was in the cast back then, he was one of the prisoners. It is visible in the scene with the balloon. In the background you see the Torre Piccada.
ОтветитьI'm proud American movies making this movie in Indonesia country🇮🇩
ОтветитьThe beginning of this movie reminds me of Pappilon.
ОтветитьI remember this being advertised on television, but never saw it. It seems it was advertised a few years later and was being shown as part of a double feature along with Thor Heyerdahl's Kon Tiki at drive-in theaters.
ОтветитьThese effects are incredible
ОтветитьI love that Movie seen it 6 times and like it more every time I see it ❤
ОтветитьExcellent
ОтветитьTh producers thought that "East of Java" sounded more romantic. They were told about the geography but they footed the bill, so they got their way with the title. Fairly good film. Great special effects without CGI. That year 2001 A Space Odyssey won the Oscar. Great music score by Frank DeVol.
ОтветитьWhere is that song that goes sister sister have you heard I know a word that’s a magic word?
ОтветитьWatched this on TV in the 70s as kid in NZ. Always thought it was funny that they put "East of Java" in the title.
ОтветитьI WAS 25 WHEN THIS MOVIE CAME OUT IN 1968. I WAS BEHIND ENEMY LINES. LITTLE DID I KNOW, I WOULD BE CAPTURED IN 1995 AND SPEND 13 YEARS IN SOLITARY CONFINEMENT UNTIL I WAS DYING IN LATE 2008. I KNOW HOW THESE PRISONERS FEEL IN THIS MOVIE. :-(
ОтветитьI saw this at 11 years old at the north drive-in in denver with my parents in 1968.
It is now feb 27,2023. The colors are good in this and special effects for that time are good. Great flik and it was the first or the second loudest noise on the planet when it happened. Miss my parents and those grand times when the end of the show was upbeat with happy tunes.
i though this was a film about the eruption and the aftermath and survival of the people.
ОтветитьThis is the first time I've seen this film! Very impressive - my heart and tears go out to the 36K souls who perished in that fateful moment in 1883.
ОтветитьI could swear, I remember from childhood Brian Keith as captain of a ship that survived a tsunami- I thought it would be this movie... any idea what Keith film I'm thinking of?
ОтветитьMean to watch this presently but never understood title as Krakatoa is west of Java, Bali is east
ОтветитьKrakatoa is west of java not east
ОтветитьBrilliant.
ОтветитьLooks like nobody wants to mention that Krakatoa is at WEST of Java.
Ответить50年以上前の映画でしかもビデオ化されず、ずっと見られなかった作品です。
どうもありがとう。
Saw this in Cinerama at the long closed Astoria in London's Charing X Road. Apart from the mistitle, it should of been West, the film was not a big hit, entertaining though it is. Print is very good and it's worth a watch
