This is such an important issue. I used to be a typical liberal who didn't believe in IQ tests. Then I worked in a job that involved advocating for people with intellectual disabilities. I worked with many clients whose IQs were in the 60s and 70s. And my experience tracks Jordan's. Only a handful of my clients with IQs below 80 ever managed to sustain employment. And no client with an IQ below 70 did. But all of them WANTED to work. And they had the capacity to work as well. Just not at the pace and complexity of our modern economy. I came to believe that we have a moral obligation to provide meaningful, dignified work for people with low IQ, not just warehouse them with disability benefits. We need to refocus from a "welfare" mentality to a "there is a job for everyone" mentality. It may not cost any less than just mailing checks. But not everything is about money. Sometimes we just need to do what is right.

If you have less than 80 IQ, go be the best at a sport if you really don't think you can't succeed in anything else, just look at Ali, motherfucker's a legend, and he had an IQ of 78, you just have to work like a motherfucking slave. (Like any person who ever reaches success)

130 IQ - 116 IQ on the Wechsler Scale, standard deviation 15, is actually the 97.75 percentile to 85.6 percentile, which is about 1 / 44 to about 1 / 7.

My iq is about 115-125, which is fine, but i always feel stupid. I am studying Master Psychology and other people seem much smarter than me. They can understand hard stuff faster than me.

I have a friend who has an iq of 135 and he is mostly gaming even though he is also studying Master. I can not imagine how hard is life for people with an iq of less than 100.

I know that i am slightly above average, but everything is still quite hard for me.

Great lecture, but there are a few mistakes. Eg., jobs that are mismatched with their alleged IQs. Perhaps some were true up until the 1970s or 80s, but a MACHINIST is someone with an average or lower IQ..?? Whoever said that doesn't know what they do. Or a COP is someone with an average (~100) IQ..? Get real. Those days are over in the US. They have to be 110-120 and that relegates them to "patrolman" or CHP, etc. Can't be investigators...certainly can't testify about anything meaningful.

However, the admission that "under 87 has no corresponding jobs" ... CERTAINLY explains why a "PARTICULAR POPULATION" that represents about 13% of the United States accounts for the VAST majority of CRIME, especially violent crime, and why they're so "upset" at all the other members of society. Because that population has an IQ avg of 85 !! That means half of them? Are ≤ 85. !!!

According to questionable online tests I’m somewhere in the 130-140 mark and I’m in mechanical engineering. It’s challenging enough to be interesting but I have to work. A point worth mentioning. I’m the kind of kid who never learned to work in high school and so having to work along peers smarter than I was unusual. At the university I enrolled in (and am still in!) I went from top of the pack to somewhere in the middle. If you want to get humbled fast that’s a great way to do it.

I’ve got a friend near 170 as a different type of engineer (nuclear) and I can learn as much as him, but I have to work many times more. He even went as far as to say engineering is boring because it’s just not hard for him. My experience is brute force work can compensate for some differences in IQ but at the end of the day a 40 point bump like the above example is night and day. With sheer willpower I can be ahead of the curve in exams but many people here are much smarter, they just don’t work as hard. When they do, I stand no chance of being anywhere but the mean.

SAT tests vocabulary and math You can be smart and not do well on it like friends I had who were from a foreign country and learned English late. Kids who were great at math but something in life kept them attending and they didn’t have time to hit the advanced classes but had they done so … Iq testing can’t be based on knowledge accumulation. I had a very high score on iq tests as a child and also on sat but I recall thinking how unfair the sat was and being annoyed that very intelligent friends I had were unfairly pigeon holed by a knowledge test where is you don’t know 300 vocabulary words you’re screwed

He also goes around talk about bible and Jesus, which makes him a hypocrite like everyone else. For example in bible in Luke 14:33 Jesus concluded that “Only the man who says goodbye to all of his possessions can be my disciple”. And many more verses in Acts for example. So he used bible just to make money which is ironic because Bible position on money and greed is clear. So has he read bible really? Or does he believe in it? I doubt. As a UofT alumni myself I am appalled by him. But then again that university was full of profs like him who thought they can be gatekeepers and blocked my dream of becoming a researcher myself. Because they pretend that they read bible or believe in God just to get a position in society and book deals. They don’t really believe in God either. I find these hypocrites more dangerous because identifying how toxic they are is so hard for people.

For those who never read bible:

Acts 2:44-45 (Phi) All the believers joined together and shared everything in common; they sold their possessions and goods and divided the proceeds among the fellowship according to individual need.

Acts 4:32,34-35 (NIV) All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had... There were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned lands or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to anyone as he had need.

God is calling all of us to let go of our possessions. We may even get to use them in the future if we "loosen our grip". If we do not do this willingly ourselves, God will. It is a sure sign that we are sons. We should thank the Lord when He wrenches a dangerous thing from our hands. Maybe we could even cooperate a little! If we don't, moths, rust, and thieves will do their job.
A.W. Tozer: "Never Own Anything--Get Rid Of The Sense Of Possessing!"
Luke 14:33 (Phi) "Only the man who says goodbye to all his possessions can be my disciple."
Luke 14:33 (TEB) Concluded Jesus, "none of you can be my disciple unless he gives up everything he has."

The answer, sadly, is evolution: society becomes more complex, the less intelligent (who could previously make decent lives in jobs that are now unavailable/extinct) are decreasingly able to "make it," until the consequences of having an IQ of less than say 100 become so severe as to mean certain homelessness, illness, and death in said complex society. Then one day, (based on today's (2023) testing)), most people will average around "105" "110" etc etc. Granted, that by that point in time, our IQ measures will probably have shifted along at a comparative rate, so people will likely still test as "100" on average. Simple fact of the matter is: the humans that can adapt and thrive in the world's current conditions are the ones who will influence the gene pool. Period.

I listened to the television psychologist Dr. Phil McGraw, bragging on an interview that he is proud to be a Christian. Except for Christians that are also Protestants as is he ... who cares that he is proud to be a Protestant Christian? My guess is, the Catholic Christians are not impressed, and nor are those that are also proud of other religious indulgences.

And speaking of the job market ... many times, history proved that the “opinions” of psychologists (concerning their assessments of high or low IQs concerning people suited for the job market) were not at all trustworthy.

From the book … THE LOST FAMILY … How DNA Testing is Upending Who We Are … author … Libby Copeland

Meanwhile, psychologists administered IQ tests to US Army recruits and concluded that “race” was linked to intelligence; conveniently, the racial hierarchy they discovered perfectly conformed to preexisting prejudices. Eugenics influenced the Immigration Act of 1924, which restricted the numbers of people coming from “socially inadequate” areas like eastern and southern Europe.
