Can you hear the difference? - Ibanez JEM Jr vs JEM7v

JEM JR would sound just as good as the original if you only change the pickups to DiMarzio EVO. This is what makes difference and it's a 150 dollars upgrade.

I have both guitars and they may sound similar but the 7v is a far better guitar its neck is thinner it's action is faster and as soon as you play you can tell the difference I like both guitars but there's no comparison sorry

With the same pickups there will be NO sound difference at all. The woods make zero difference to electric guitars

Good job. There is a difference. I'm switching from my JEM Jr to Dimarzio. Bridge - AT-1; Middle - Cruiser with side-by-side coils; Neck - Evolution.

I wonder how many people are commenting on this based upon watching rather than just listening to the video? Close your eyes. Even with really good quality headphones, I doubt you can tell which guitar is which. I own both guitars. Even the difference in feel is nominal.

Yes, the neck is a little thicker on the Jr and it needs a brass block to fix the sustain issue. Otherwise, there is virtually no difference. Just cosmetics & cork sniffery..

The 7v sounds much better on the clean side because of the ebony fretboard and alder body. Only downside to the Jem Jr

Could hear it more on the clean channel but bit of distortion on it sounds very similar either war jem Jr is a great buy @ that price jem is about 6-7 times the price both beautiful guitars but original is always going to sound better

The issue, which is really stupid. I was a 80's rocker and still am jamming (all kinds of music) all these videos are recorded through computer. I love it and dig but it is so nice playing through a half stack and some pedals, smoking a little and jamming. Peace 🕊️.

Great playing, and actually I think the Junior did well holding up to it's more expensive brother.

The weird thing is I am a die hard Steve Vai fan. Had an old UV7BK and I can say Steve's guitars were meant to sound nasal and I feel the top end is bordering on muffled. If I get my hands on a 7V or a 555 I would always look into modding them with non-Vai signature pickups. Have no experience with his recent ones though

I'm partial to the mahogany body that the Gem Jr is made from.

There is a quite big difference in the quality of the sound but if you put the JR with a good amp and the 7v with a shit amp the JR will sound much better...

the only huge difference is that the $3000 7V has more powerful dmarzio pickups, ebony fretboard, higher tier Edge tremolo

To be honest they are both bad at clean, jr is a little worse. But this is a distortion guitar.

JR is an excellent value but I appreciate the difference and at that point it's like 2 seconds for a 100m runner. close but. the evo is far beyond in brightness and sustain. to me a lot. the jem 7V has a dream of a nek. I wonder try the Jr's one. but for 500$ no much to say other than it's a veeeeeeeery good trade.

Well if you ever played a Japanese Jem you know they are worth what they cost. For what it costs the Jr fit and finish is better than what you usualy get. Never tried a premium Jem yet.

When you polish and we'll intonated them plush upgrade of capacitors and pickups ,

A lot of it is tuning stability and feel lol. These guitars might be similar on paper but they do not feel the same.

The only difference is not the sustain that the Jem Jr lacks.

7v shows shimmering high end at times. Soundwise + price, Jr is a steal. Nicely done.

i cant believe ppl sying in distortion the sound the same. i mean come on, can't y'all hear the sustain and the thickness of jem7v? jem jr is a good guitar but for beginners, jem7v is a monster.

i've own 555 (very early version when it just came out), 7VWH and 7SFG. The sound profile is almost similar however, Jr has thinner sound and less sustain, 7VWH sound fuller and more projection, 7SFG is in-between. The difference in the tones is due to the wood of the body, so the wood use for the guitar overall is equally important. But overall the EVO pickup maintains similar sound profile. I love EVO pups.. my other guitars are using EVOs too. And surprisingly, one of my Yamaha RGX420 DZ2 sounds quite good with EVO pups, has clarity and sound really crispy and clean. Whatever it is, EVO ftw! 🤣

Yes. 7V was better in tune, longer sustain, lot better pickup sound.

The 7v sounds a bit more articulated. Notes are ringing out a little more. The Jr sounds a little bit muddier, but as an owner of a Jr myself I think it sounds good, and very close for a $500 guitar

i like only playing my own style; that way I'm not copying anybody and i can focus on being all original and nobody can say i ripped this, or that guy off....
