I watched this episode live. I had to wait months for the part two. I literally remember standing in my living room jumping up and down freaking out about that ending.
ОтветитьMy brother's first reaction to the guys stepping out of the raptor
"wow, they're arseholes"😂
"This is going to be great."
Yeah....about that 😂
This episode and the next few others were such good episodes disregarding the disgusting nature of the you know if you know scenes.
Ответитьyou're at a good point in the story to watch the movie about the pegasus.
ОтветитьI hope you watch Razor after this season. It gives a lot of perspective from the Pegasus crew and command.
ОтветитьI think you gals made good points about how some people are bad and waiting for the opportunity to exploit or victimize people, and some people end up doing horrible things because they can be indoctrinated to dehumanize others
ОтветитьSuch a great shot at the end with the Pegasus planes heading straight for the civilian fleet, with the Galactica in the middle.
ОтветитьDespite the unpleasant nature of the content that got darker by the second, it was a revelation to see Helfer play that entirely new moment for "Head Six," of processing being totally horrified for maybe the first time in that character's existence, where her normal veneer of control is shattered. And of course the dual roles she begins to take on from this point warrant great respect.
Certainly this is not the first time before or after in the series that Ron Moore lets the content be informed by the experience of 9-11 and the consequences of it both here and abroad.
Peace to you both, it seems like you dealt with a lot in your reaction.
If the Cilonies were like most Earth nations, all it would take is the stroke of a pen and Roslin could make Adama superior to Cain.
ОтветитьBest episode ever in a sci-fi series, in my opinion. The whole "Prelude to war" sequence, the "phone call" between the captains, is pure gold (and the OST of the episode has won everything that could be won, amazing Bear McCreary).
ОтветитьThat’s what makes this set of episodes so good, they force civilians to have to look at the world through military eyes during a time of war and what happens to people when they’ve spent nearly a full year under Marshall law.
And yea under Marshall law some people will allow their inner evil to take control under the guise of, “well I was just following orders.” Stay strong gals, these next few episodes are going to be a wild journey.
The extended cut is a full 16 mins longer. I would maybe recommended watching it, but skip watching the very end. Besides this ep, I would always recommend watching the extended cuts of which there are many. Glad you made it through to the other side.
ОтветитьThis episode we see Giaus actually show empathy and love towards the battered six.
Tricia and James play so we'll off each other... it's quite magical in terms of their chemistry on screen together.
The wait for the next episode when this first aired was almost unbearable.... truly!!!!
ОтветитьI can't wait to see which characters perhaps you both have had a change of heart by the end of the series, or loathe or like etc.
This show is great at turning our feelings upside down and then around for another spin or two! Thank you both!!!☺️💚💚
WOW. I cannot believe how detailed and brilliant your analysis is. And I have a new found respect for Kat.
ОтветитьWhat I feel like gets glossed over rather quickly is the fact that the humans have done x-rays and autopsies on these organic cylons, and literally everything about them appeared human. Brain, intestines, lungs, all of that stuff was unidentifiable as not being from a regular human being. They clearly have emotions and free will, and psychologically are the same as humans. Baltar had to whip up a magical cylon detector to be able to tell the difference.
The Pegasus crew didn't have a cylon detector. In every way, 6 appeared human to them. And they still did the horrible things they did to her. For Admiral Cain to allow that sort of thing to happen under her command says everything you need to know about her. She failed as a leader. Imagine being a woman on the Pegasus, knowing their fellow shipmates were going down to the brig to do that.
Michelle Forbes was such a good get!
Ответитьensign ro turned admiral
ОтветитьNice reaction as usual, but you cut it too mutch this time
Ответитьvery hard episode. Thanks for react to that awesome show.
ОтветитьNo excusing the behavior, but you will understand how and why they got there when you eventually watch the Battlestar Galactica movie Razor. They are all victims.
Ответитьyou know, I'm starting to have enough of this "safe space" bullshit.
you're watching A DRAMA show such as BSG, and you "content warning" your audience?
THIS is how people IS! greedy! treacherous! violent! abusive!...
if you can't take this from a fucking FICTION, maybe you should grow a thicker skin, because reality out there ain't gonna "content warning" you!
and, FYI, it gets more dramatic down the line, so might as well stop watching now if you can't take it.
Fully understand the reaction to the SA scene . Cylons nuked caprica , 6 snapped a babies neck , and multiple other horrific things . You need the ability to have sympathy for a cylon , so I feel that is why they went that direction.
Great show but it is like they start writing each episode with “ OK , what’s the worst thing that could happen …. Ok what’s worse then that “ and keep going till they find what pushes the plot but also costs them in some way . Lol
Watching you guys react I laughed a bit since you both cry at Who and I was like “ oh no , there are not enough tissues on the planet for this series “ .
Love your reactions and your energy . Sorry this was a particularly rough one .
A good time to reflect. We hold the Pegasus crew in disgust and correctly so. But we’ve had the privilege in the show of seeing some cylons. Got to know them as individuals. Been able to see their humanity. They have not.
These are machines that just destroyed their civilization and killed everyone they know. We’d all like to think we wouldnt behave the way that the Pegasus crew has but recorded history would just disagree with you.
What you feel about the man that died they feel about every cylon, and rightly so….
“They would be the same monsters….” No they wouldnt have been. They dont see them as humans thats the point and why would they. To paint them as “just bad people” is to miss the point.
this is literally one of the most messed up episodes in the whole series, it honestly makes you wonder if humans deserve to continue exist...
ОтветитьThis is a seriously tough show. And it's all the more brilliant for it. I wish more TV shows had the guts to go where Battlestar goes. Our society would be the better for it.
ОтветитьAll of this unpleasantness could have been avoided if the president had at some point just given Adama the rank of Fleet Admiral. Since that's exactly the function he's performed since the beginning of the series, it's kind of weird that she didn't. Then, when the Pegasus arrived, what's-her-face would have been fetching his coffee instead of giving orders.
ОтветитьAs horrific as it is to watch this episode. Cain actually does follow the law in what she does in this episode. The Cylons do not have rights. Under Colonial law they aren't living beings. They are not sentient beings. They are programmed toasters. You use the term Martial law. Technically they aren't. They are following Military rules and regs, but those rules and regulation are under colony rule.
And to show she isn't completely without merit. In time of War, the actions of Lee and Kara are death warrants. They both under law should be executed. For that matter Adama removing illegally Rosalyn is a crime under the law that has a death sentence.
And while Adama and Rosalyn made a deal, that deal wouldn't be binding under law. It would require a constitution change or the legislative body to change to make it have any validity. That didn't happen.
For example if you are serving in time of war in the US, your actions are tried in Military court. Thats the justice system in the US. It's the US justice system that set up the Military Code and Military justice system. Martial law is setting aside civilian law, and having the government run by whomever is senior military and it would allow that person to change on their whim any real or reg they wished. Cain hasn't done any of that in this episode.
What this episode does is shine a light on how we as viewers have changed out opinion about Cylons since the show started (and lets face it we didn't fight two wars, and witness the near total annihilation of 12 planets worth of humanity). And it also highlights how far the crew of the Galactica have come from the beginning of the series.
Let's face it until quite recently the crew have felt very much the same way. They aren't sentient life. They aren't living beings.
They have executed and attempted to execute specific beings who they have no idea if they have ever harmed anyone. When Boomer is killed. Cally is charged with illegal discharge of her weapon. The equivalent charge just shooting. around inside a building when messing around. No assault, no Attempted murder, no murder charges of any kind. Why? Because she isn't a sentient being in their eyes. This is just months ago in universe time. A little later when Boomer comes in, Rosalyn orders her out the airlock. No Crime, no attempt to harm anyone that they have any knowledge of. Just the simply fact that it exists. And only her information kept her alive.
In fact its Sharon''s interaction with Helo, then later Starbuck, the fact thats she's pregnant that are the primary reasons that they treat her even remotely like a living being.
And let's be clear, she is still a prisoner. A prisoner for what exactly? To the best knowledge of everyone, we have no idea if she has ever done harm to humanity. She's Cylon thus she must be the enemy.
Gonna be honest, this episode is my favorite cliffhanger since "Mr. Worf ... Fire."
ОтветитьAs a Trekkie, it was so cool seeing Michelle Forbes again. She’s perfect as the hard-ass Cain. It’s also cool seeing another Battlestar too, especially as it’s more advanced. But, of course, I did pick up on the twist of how, in Trek, the “hero” ships are normally the newest and best ships with the best crews. Whereas, this time, it’s flipped on its head and the crew are the absolute worst, really sadistic. Without spoiling anything, they made a TV movie much later, called “Razor”, which fills in all the backstory for the Pegasus and her crew. It’s definitely worth checking out, especially the uncut/unrated version on blu-ray. I think it was made and released around the time of the start of the final season.
ОтветитьYou're about to experience arguably the best two episodes of BSG ever.
ОтветитьTwo things:
You're cheering for Colonel Tigh and Gaius Baltar . Congrats . The show is doing it's thing .
In other news : in this show, watching the extended versions of episodes is highly recommended . You're short changing yourselves if you don't .
"It's Ensign Ro motherfucker!" is probubly my fav reaction to the arrival of Pegasus.
ОтветитьThe night after this aired was probably the most intense night for the Sci-fi discussion forum for this show. My favorite thread from that night was "The protruding bolt appreciation thread". The filming of that scene suggested that without that protruding bolt, Lt. Thorne might have survived being thrown against that wall.
But there were plenty of less supportive people on there as well, including many who took the Pegasus crew's side. One thread that I frequently saw but didn't feel a need to read was titled "It's a blow-up doll, get over it". The dehumanization you discussed was unfortunately not limited to the fictional world.
Historical context: This episode aired a few months after the public learned about abuse of Iraqi prisoners in the Abu Graib prison, which would become the real-world analogy for this rather than anything that was rumored at Guantanamo Bay.
ОтветитьRegarding differences between the two versions of this episode, outside of the SA scene, the most important one (IMHO) is right at the beginning. You see Kara talking with Adama and Roslin, describing a mission plan to go back to Caprica to rescue Anders and crew, but Adama believes that her plan to get raptors to jump back that far is overly optimistic. Then this meeting is interrupted by the alerts that another ship has jumped in. In the televised version, they do not show that Kara Thrace was in that room with Adama and Roslin.
The other scene that was cut for time but gets the most attention in the extended version is a montage of Pegasus resupplying Galactica, including a Pegasus officer giving Gaeta a hard drive full of news and cultural records, to replace what Galactica had lost in the previous episode's memory wipe. What everyone remembers is that after thanking them, Gaeta then asks them hopefully, "Is there any p0rn in there?"
As for the actual SA scene, their toned down editing actually changed the story a bit. In the televised version, it seems that Helo and Chief Tyrol arrive in the nick of time to prevent Lt. Thorne from doing the actual deed, but him coming so close is still traumatizing. With a re-ordering of scenes and a few more shots included, the extended version makes it clear that penetration occurred, and Helo and the Chief interrupted it rather than prevented it. Actress Grace Park has subsequently said that as far as she is concerned, that extended version is what actually happened, and this opinion has effected how she played the character in subsequent episodes.
An Admiral should have good people skills.... Says the TNG fan😁
ОтветитьThis episode felt off from the start. “Welcome back to the fleet” from Cain told me everything I needed know about the situation.
Also, sending you gals hugs. This is a rough one.
This episode is one of the best and most disturbing of the series. It's a disgusting scene that makes me mad still to this day i know why it's there but it still is disgusting and as a man there is no excuse for doing such a action.. I consider rape to be worse then murder in some ways, It terrifies me that i might do that to someone , to clarify i will never and have never. I agree id punch that mans dead corpse!
ОтветитьLaura Roslin has made many mistakes as president. The biggest is probably not giving Adama a higher rank.
ОтветитьGreat episode, great after episode chat as well. Do have a look at the extended version, there are other scenes added which are nice plot/character stuff, it's not just the SA scene.
Ответить
