Croydon: How it is - November 2020

This walk from North End to West Croydon happened at a standout moment in the history of the town. On 11/11/20 news broke that Croydon Council was bankrupt, it had issued a Section 114 notice to stop further spending. This added further concern to what was already a pretty desperate situation.

The video captures an early morning visit, the day before Lockdown 2 started in England. I have lived in Croydon all of my life and it used to be the place to go for shopping, bars, restaurants etc. Times have changed, leases were not renewed due to the supposed development to see a Westfield Centre built. That has not happened, and we now have a shell of what it once was which is sad to see.

One can only hope that its fortunes turn around one day, but trends are moving away from High Street shopping to out of town retail parks. Only time will tell.
