VLC is probably the best video player out there.

Macrium only lists 30 day trials.

Very nice list, except for Macrium Reflect. Companies that force you into proviing your e-mail address to be able to download a trial should be avoided like the plague. IMHO Explaining Computers should NEVER promote potential spammers like this.

Ashampooo is a trial version of an excellent Software that administer very well the OS, but it do it almost automatically. Apps like this are very helpful when you care about the performance of the system.
Is wired that Microsoft has not developed this kind of executables. ⭐⭐⭐😅

If you Recuva lost files onto the same drive, does it allot a new section of the drive for the data (thereby overwriting potentially other lost files), or does it restore the data in place?

I'd suggest Libre Office. Handles and functions a lot like Office 365, but the full version (of LibreOffice) is free (open-source).

In my opinion, MPC-HC is better for playing videos because of having less junk only advanced users know how to use. Just simple right out of the box media player

Great list Chris. To add my two cents, "WinDirStat", which is quite popular judging from the comments here, BSPlayer as an alternative to VLC. It also has the capability of automatically downloading subs, very useful for us non native English speakers. And I would also add a feature on Google Chrome, called "Remote Desktop". While not a stand alone application itself, it allows you to fully control another PC, viewing it through a Chrome tab. An extremely fine alternative to TeamViewer, which lately causes quite the issues.

Enter many of the utilities in MS Store and you will find them there, like VLC or Irfanview, easier to install and you can blame Microsoft if they corrupt your computer.

RIOT...a great image REDUCER, without image loss. Works on all, & exports to .jpg or .PNG. Its available as an Add-on to Irfanview, or standalone. Includes some extreme .PNG reducers, too. No website creator should be without!

SERIF has "abandoned" its former excellent programs, & they are easily available online. So is the one key number that "unlocks" them all. PagePlus, WebPlus,.... There's 5(?) available. Serif's newer-versions are called "Infinity".

My top free utility is Gizmo by Arainia. Among other things, many other things, it creates and burns iso files, creates and mounts virtual drives, can be configured to create and mount virtual drives as part of the computer's start-up. So if I want to play a game that requires a disk to be in a drive, I can mount it as a virtual disk and the game never knows the difference. In lieu of NotePad I use Notepad++. VLC is definitely a must.

It's interesting how he pronounces the name "Recuva," with a long u. I think it's pretty obvious it's intended to be pronounced with a short u like "recover" except with a short a instead of er.
