What I don't get about the sand screens is how they keyed them out. If you were to key out that brown color a lot of the rest of the actual scene would disappear with them. So I guess they would have to rotoscope every frame by hand? What a nightmare for the artists. Or am I missing something?
ОтветитьGreat video, but man, comparing Dune's VFX and practical effects against DC and Marvel movies is a sin haha. The best compared to the worst.
ОтветитьVery nice content man, skilfully conceived and presented, I like it!
ОтветитьSo it's immersive realism. Like how Studio Ghibli animations are very grounded in reality and details even though they can do fantastic shots without constraints.
ОтветитьOne greenscreen tech I've heard of but not seen much about is retroreflective screens. Since the screen is retroreflective, if you put a green light near the camera, it will look green from the camera's perspective, but won't bounce as much green onto the actors as an actually-green surface. That probably only works in relatively dim environments though.
ОтветитьDenee Villenew
ОтветитьWhat a terrible movie made into an even more terrible remake
ОтветитьWhat an amazing video!
ОтветитьI didn't know that the multiple companies can have the same name like your sponsor
Ответитьin short its vfx felt like it was a real world whereas others have a cartoony disconnect
Ответитьdune.... a film that looks great, but ultimately the film is so bad
ОтветитьImportant part to mention about sandscreens is that their inverted color is blue, allowing to still add vfx easily.
ОтветитьI really appreciate your analysis. BLADE RUNNER 2049 made me a Denis Villenueve fan right then and there. While the credits rolled at the end, I did not move. I could not move. I've never had that experience from seeing a film before or since.
Ответитьthis movie was so fucking dark i couldn't see anything
ОтветитьI’ve noticed a trend, especially with Marvel like films, that the final CGI now often looks like it could use a few more layers of everything.
It’s like they have to crap out these scenes as fast as they can, and I’m doing so sacrifice flawlessness. Compare Ironman 1’s CGI to Black Panther 2 or the last Spiderman movie. There’s no competition.
Best VFX Enhancer goes to.....................SAND🤣
ОтветитьAs a person who read the books this movie is a piece of s*** the one that was made before the English version with sting in it I thought had some serious flaws but with this movie I look back at that movie and think that it was a masterpiece now even though I thought it was a piece of s*** then because someone actually managed to make the movie look better and be far worse at the same time
Ответитьin short ..they are not fans of simulations
ОтветитьBecause everything else that year looked like a polished turd.
ОтветитьVilleneuve is THE sci-fi genius right now...imo.
Just as Robert Eggers is to modern horror.
I mean....he literally created his own take on Blade Runner and Dune and, imo at least....NAILED it.
Along with Nolan, and a few others, we have some truly brilliant directors working right now.
so basically instead like ordinary art that you can notice "ohh this is art", dune itself is like hyper realistic art that look so real even though you know it's just any other CGI movies.
ОтветитьIt's also important to make sure that you don't get obsessed with making it realistic and forget the entertainment part. A good example is that game of thrones war episode which was so freakin dark
ОтветитьThat was the most innovative way to design what we know as a helicopter in a film to date.
ОтветитьI have to say I 100% agree with you! Lightning is so important! It just makes the film more real and it also speaks volumes in terms of quality of how the film is made. Great Video!
Ответить"Let me preface by saying one style isn't better than the other". But then lemme show you how it really is. lol.
Dune is superior. I hope everybody else takes note.
I'm a HUGE Dune fan. Best novel in the entire world. While this movie wasn't perfect, it was friggin close! So happy to have a Dune movie that faithfully represents the book.
Proper lighting and its play on digital environments has always been the bane of CGI. The eye easily spots abnormalities.
ОтветитьA video about avoiding hate from people who love cgi heavy superhero movies, guest starring some cool technology dune used.
Ответитьyou do NOT pronounce Villeneuve "Villnuuf"... please just look it up and stop saying it so weirdly
ОтветитьComparing traditional filming techniques with computer-generated (CG) imagery reveals an interesting paradox. Traditional filming, despite all the efforts to make viewers forget about the camera, often inadvertently highlights its presence. Lens flares, for instance, are a reminder of the camera's optics, not something we observe naturally with our eyes. Additionally, the dynamic range is often limited due to the constraints of real-world cameras.
On the other hand, CG provides a medium free from these inherent camera limitations, offering a level of control and precision unavailable with traditional filming techniques. despite digital cameras being unbound by physical constraints, film makers often reintroduces elements of traditional camera work, like lens flares or certain dynamic range limitations, to foster a sense of familiarity and authenticity.
In my humble opinion, the best visual is to actually shoot on camera as possible and enhance it with CGI, not to create it from 0%
ОтветитьI watched Dune in Imax, really stunned by music and vfx. It is truly an masterpiece!!
ОтветитьShocking that it won anything at all, but Hollywood was playing the spread, the industry has been equalling the awards for about a decade now, making sure that each the nominated films get something so that it would make money back at the box office, not because they are good or deserved it.
Even to the casual observer the effects in this new Dune were not good - the overhead shots of the city look like toy models, the spice harvester also look like toy models, the lighting and photography looked like cheap digital video.
Sad.
Dennis and nolan are class. My big issue with nolan though is he once took it too far. He should have used effects to increase the number of soldiers on the beach for dunkirk. It took me out of the movie and only using three spitfires because thats all he had was another one.
ОтветитьThey gave hawat a fancy little umbrella because the VFX team thought their work wasn't challenging enough
Ответитьwake up babe. thomas flight posted another video on dune
ОтветитьBecause it is a Zionist propaganda movie to promote Zionism is the short answer
ОтветитьMaybe marvel can learn from this
Ответитьwhy are you wearing a hospital gown?
ОтветитьHow can you read "Villenoove"???????
ОтветитьThank you for making this insightfull video, Dune is my favorite movie since LOTR. I've already re-watched it 5 times.
ОтветитьCame here after watching a VFX analysis/appreciation video of District 9. These 2 movies have incredible grounded CGI that I'd love to see more of.
ОтветитьDenis Villeneuve and his team always create magnificent end products that I consider art pieces. I really hate today's misconception of what's entertaining, as it truly affects the overall opinion on DUNE. I'm glad there are still a lot of us who actually value every visual, sound, and story detail. Thank you, Thomas, for being who you are.
ОтветитьIts crazy how low the bar is for vfx. These techniques are basic and logical, and its a shame that giving a fuck about how your movie is so rare nowadays.
ОтветитьBlockbuster films never have a budget problem. They have an attitude towards budget problem.
ОтветитьDisney/Marvel has taken "We'll fix it in post" to a whole new level. Their shooting schedules are incredibly tight and they rather put everyone in front of a shoddy green screen than to travel to a location.
ОтветитьI love the VFX, but I find the aesthetics just too achromatic that they are not beautiful to look at, it's practicallly a black and white film. A great film but some of the creative choices I disagree with.
Ответить
