They did consider getting rid of wigs a few years ago but one of the reasons they kept them was for 'disguise'.

Our Magistrates and District judges only wear it on ceremonial occasions, while High, Appeal and Supreme Court judges always wear them.

I saw somewhere it has more of a reason to do with allusion of power and divinity. No mortal man can take another man to trial, so they wear those silly wigs to cloak their immoral human nature while a man in trial is expected to take his hat off, which is hypocritical.
