I just got a 2022. It’s very subtle. I’m sincerely happy with it.

I dont want a CVT, I dont want a digital dash as I like gauges, I dont want polarizing looks. More tech means more stuff to malfunction. I rank the Mazda6 higher on style and interior but it's noticeably smaller. Camry is fine but dime a dozen. The Passat checks off a lot of boxes including still having a large fuel tank which means more range. Only the Legacy also has the 18.5 gallon tank any more. Camry/Altima/Accord keep making their tanks smaller.

So this is a different platform?

Love my 2020 Passat R-Line. Got a good deal on a sharp looking car that makes me happy whenever I drive it. That’s all that matters

I just traded my ‘21 R-Line Passat for a Limited Edition (read: final edition), in Racing Green w/that brown Mauro leather. It really is beautiful. I have owned a ‘96 Passat TDI wagon, ‘02 Passat V6 GLS, ‘04 Passat GLS wagon, and, now, these two. There’s no question, the NMS (new midsized sedan) was dumbed-down for North America (and also enlarged for our fat asses) compared to the European model, but also to inaugurate the Chattanooga factory and, if memory serves, the NMS was nominated for North American Car of the Year. So, it’s served several purposes, and served them well. We will miss the Passat when it’s gone. BTW, I also own a 2020 Arteon SEL-Premium, so I compare them every day.

The Passat sedan will also be discontinued in Europe, alongside the Arteon. Although the Passat wagon will live to see another generation for now.

They dropped the ball on this. Europe gets the one worth buying and we got stuck with this. The inside reminds me of my old 2016 Jetta.

VW obviously went for the value proposition here. Knock a few grand off at the dealership and this is a bargain value buy. I might look for a lease return and get it even cheaper. I noticed they ditched the analog clock which is too bad. It was a hallmark of the Passat.

Just got this SE model for a rental. The 174 hp is so underpowered & constantly have to floor it to accelerate. Dated & somber.

I love the Passats. I have a 2017 r-line and I love it. I loved the minor exterior face lift the did in 2016. This model of Passat doesn’t look bad at all. I like it.

I like simple. I don't mess with a touch screen that often. It being small isn't really a con in my opinion. Overly complicated and fussy cars with too much tech are just a pain. I want a car to drive, not a PC/entertainment system combo on wheels.

I think it's a nice, roomy, comfortable car. I took this car out for a test drive and it drove very smoothly. It's a throwback to earlier years, is easy to drive and operate, and although it is not loaded with tons of tech features one comes to expect in today's newer cars, it does have some important updated safety improvements. It has everything you need, actually. The Navigation screen is small and primitive by today's standards. True, but it does come with Apple and Android Car Play so you can always connect your phone and use Waze or Google Maps. In my opinion, sometimes simple is best. And since this is a first-time car for my son, it's perfect.

Love retro. Simple is better a dip into the past is goooood. Vw are good snow cars never got stuck and I live in chicago where winter are brutal

Just got a 2020 sel. Great retro car. Don’t miss the stop start. As is does not have it don’t miss and the 10 speed trans doing the samba searching for a gear. 6 speed more simple and adequate. It’s a retro car. 206 pfe of torque is plenty. A great cruiser car. Very elegant feeling. My 9th vw. Getting a set of continentals. Get rid of the giti tires.

This 2021 Passat is miles better than the Camry. It's as you say it is. Simple unassuming and regular looking. There is a lot to be said about those attributes as not everyone wants to be splashy in your face. I get it...it's all good...different stuff for different folks.

Like it in Latin America the VW brand attract less attention. Which is a good thing vs BMW and Mercedes which will attract more attention from criminals

It's amazing how much importance is placed on infotainment display size. This one is just fine and it is the smoothest one I have used. Function and form are matched perfectly and the sound is very good. Overall this car is an excellent automobile and if you have a soft foot on the go pedal you will easily hit the 30 mpg mark regularly. Current pricing has the SE model selling for around 24K and sometimes even less. That is a whole lotta car for your buck. Get one if you like.

..I really don't care about platform this, platform that.. bias for kids. I Just want a HONEST car with room and decent ride quality, I mean.. COMFORT RIDE. ..
That screen is big enough by the way. ..why these new generations don't install a projector tv on the sky to get their big screen wish?? It's ridiculous some cars in this days..

This has to be the dumbest thing Volkswagen has ever done. Even Nissan wouldn't cut that many corners.

I don't know, I kind of like this because it super basic and simple. Love the interior space. Nice thing is you can find 2020s cheap already! There are some things to be disappointed about but overall it's not terrible. I'd say for the price it's good.

People, you can get the base model probably for 22k with all taxes, if you are good at negotiating. It's fine.

That is actually one of the better engine notes I've heard from a car at this price point in last 5 years. Sounds a helluva lot better than any crossover you can buy in the $20k-30k range and seems to shift smoothly and predictably. Also, you can get a mid-level trim for $20,000 (advertised on website) from my local VW Dealer. Who else is even close to this price point for a mid-level midsize sedan (most are 5-8k more)? Seems like everyone is picking out all the undesirable features from this car. It's not all about infotainment. Would be interested to test drive this thing back to back with a Sonata and Accord. I bet there is really not much difference in the drive. Car seems like a huge bargain to me.

The Passat is one of those vehicles that's nice to look at, and that's it
One of those things you pass on the road and say "hm, looks good" and then continue on with life

Americanizing this car kind of defeats the purpose of buying a Volkswagen. People usually buy Volkswagen so I can buy a German car without paying BMW or Mercedes prices

Haha, “this car is as bland as a Camry”. Well, at least Camry can last 200k+ with minimal maintenance, Passat can’t compare to that!

OMG, this is even worse than my 2017 version. I'd better keep mine for another 2-3 years and trade it in with a Mazda3 HB although they are all low sold in US. I am always a big a fan of VW, but come on, there is no way for me to purchase another VW if there is no big improvement on VW US. look at the VWs in China and Euro, there are well loaded with tech, besides, the variant version of Passat, they are BEAUTIFUL. But there is one thing I wanna say, the quality of my passat so far is great. it is reliable and nice. I still like it since the day I purchased it as a new car.

From what I read VW said they couldn't put the digital cockpit offered on the new Jetta on the new/refreshed Passat because of the fact that it's still riding on the old platform and digital cockpit is not supported on that platform.

Why on earth would I consider buying this car when they are not given us the upgrades from Europe and other parts of the world, sorry V.W just keep your cheap looking, low quality cars in Europe,
Americans deserve better.

This is such a better car than the Camry or Accord. It has some sleek styling, lots of room, and handles good with just enough pep for the road!

This stylish car gets you around town with decent power and lots of comfort, what's there not to like?

Why not just do some more cost-cutting and release a taxi/cab version !!
