The only problem I have with recommending the Intel model is that Apple is phasing out the Intel Macs. Future proofing yourself is something I would recommend to anyone. You don't have to go out and buy the latest and greatest. I'd say the M2 should meet most needs still unless you need the extra power. Unless you can snag a M1 Pro or M1 Max for a great price.

The new design for entire mac line is absolutely disaster, 2019 is the best design and it should be used for current 14/16 inch pro version. Apple changes it because they have to change it.

I just ordered a 2019 16" MBP, for two reasons: 1. I want to connect two external displays, so for Apple silicon, I'd have to order at least an M1 Pro (50% more expensive refurbished), and 2. I want to run x86 VMs. I know it's kind of possible with UTM/QEMU, but it would be very sluggish. And I might want to dual-boot into something different than macOS, which is not possible at all on Apple silicon. But because I still want to run macOS as my primary OS, I ordered pretty much the best Intel MacBook Pro I could get, which was still a lot cheaper than any Apple silicon MacBook Pro with a comparable RAM/HDD config. But I have to admit that I envy the efficiency and power of the Apple chips. And things like the function keys and MagSafe.

825 usd for an apple 16 inch laptop is still a steal either way. These maxed-out ones on ebay sell brand new for 2K usd, which is an insane value because these m3 models are like 3x more expensive

If you would have told me in the entire 15 year history of the MacBook Air that it would be nearly TWICE as fast as the 16 inch MacBook Pro from 2 years ago I would have laughed. The idea that the 2019 Top Of the Line Pro is being creamed by the latest MacBook AIR is absolutely insane. Bootcamp made a lot of sense in 2006 when there were only Macs and iPods and most apps were Desktop Native applications, but now that apple has a cohesive ecosystem and most programs are just web apps, sacrificing intel and therefore bootcamp to get these insane benefits was an obvious decision by Apple

Edit: ooh yeah did I mention there's also NO FAN in the MacBook Air 🤯

My 2017 MacBook Pro (mid spec) runs fine. No performance issues here. Since most of my work is still on x86, I'm happy where I'm at. I'll take everybody's word that the M1 Macs are super duper but no need for that tech in my case.

Because of this, I am trading in my Intel MacBook Pro (just like yours) for my new MacBook Air. It's insane how much I put up with that Intel macbook being so heavy and hot and running out of battery in such a short time yet cannot even manage to be high performant like MacBook Air!! The ability to export LR images is so significant considering that I have a 60MP camera. I am so glad Apple is now using its own Apple Silicon. There's a clear performance gain. People think about specs alone but ignore the overall performance/battery life on a mobile device.

My i9 MacBook does fine for my photo editing, but as soon as I wanted to get into video, it just can't keep up with my X-H2s for 6.2k video or even 4k.. I won't even try to edit as it's already lagging during playback.

Bigger Screen. MUCH better speakers.

More ports.

Can actually chew through some work under active cooling and doesn't completely melt through the table. (Gets close...but at least there are fans working on the problem)

16GB Ram Standard

512GB SSD Standard

4GB AMD Navi GPU Standard

Native Windows Compatability

Can connect to more monitors than you own.

$600-800 depending on condition.

Comparatively weightless feeling against the 16inch ApSil MBPs.

100% P3 wide Color AND True Tone (for those heathens who like it)

The largest battery flyably allowable on a laptop

Exact (e x a c t) same footprint as the venerable 15 Inch Retina MacBook Pro.

Jony Ive's ideal laptop + pragmatic and prescient design tweaks that make a sort of MacBook Pro Air.

Design still in modern use by Apple for the 13 inch MBPs

Nuff said.

I just love the deisgn of the 16 inch MacBook pro 2019. Nearly no bezzels without the stupid notch, the amazing touchbar, the gen 1 magic keys which are much more like the butterfly keys which I love so much than the magic keys we have now which feel like the old MacBook keys from pre 2015. Finally absolute style

My 2019 Mac book pro screen broke, I am left with option of replacing the screen for around $800 or getting the Mac book air 15". What do you think is the better option. I am considering keeping my Mac book pro and using as "desktop" hooked up to external screens and using the Mac book air on the go. What are your thoughts here? The Mac book air 15" I was looking at is 8gb if get it, should I get 16gb? Looking for advice.

They should put the base M3 chip in the 16 inch touchbar MacBook Pro as an option. You get a good screen size, the Touch Bar, ports on both sides. No stupidass notch, lesser quality webcam but no normal
Person cares

Not everyone is doing serious photo editing. Especially for work nowadays, many competitions are using Azure AVD, you don't need to spend serious money for a M2 Apple Mac's.

1. Intel Macbook Pro can run Windows
2. Better sound, excellent image quality
3. Much much much more elegant design by the legendary Jony Ive, no ugly notch
4. Much cheaper
5. Supports multiple external monitors
6. Supports external GPU
7. Normal usage don't need that much computing power, for editing several photos, using MS Office, it's beyond capable !
