I just purchased a couple of Reolink's 811A cameras and was planning to set them up using Blue Iris on a home server. Since this video is a bit old, would you say they've managed to sort out their bugs and firmware regarding it? Thank you for the informative videos, it's been very helpful!

GARBAGE CAMS. DON'T BUY! I have now had 3 events where the cams didn't record the actual event but about 30 seconds after. I replaced my old Hikvision cams with these because Hikvision cams are very complicated to set up. BUT THEY WORK. I'm DONE with Reolink.

Do you know if any Reolink NVR systems will allow you to attach a reolink wifi camera? Say you have 8 PoE camera on a 16 channels system, you want to add 4 more cameras but those 4 are wireless.

I use Reolink a little differently (RTSP through Unreal Media Player). I found that ReoLink will provide firmware to change to H264 which fixed several of the issues I was getting in my system, that are similar to the Blue Iris ones.

First of all I would say that your videos are amazing. I ordered a ZOSI NVR System and it has some issues, but unfortunately you don't have any video comparing ZOSI cameras. Is ZOSI available in the US? Or it is completely fail and that's why you don't have any video about it?

Nope, nope and NOPE! Purchased over $700 in reolink gear in 2020. Installed the system per instructions and 24hrs later it all failed. I'm a retired IT guy so I know a thing or two about tech. The system turned out to be pure junk. And the support was even worse than their equipment!

Very helpful video I'm almost 70 and I'm not very tecky. May I ask how you feel about this setup and if it will work. Right now I have six Wi-Fi cameras for on my garage and two on my house and they are independent of each other. There is a Cat6 running underground from the garage to the house to my office. I was thinking I could get a date camera package with 280e switches one for the garage one for the house to allow for expansion. Put the for garage cameras in the POV switch and the underground cat 6 into one of the ports that connect it to the NVR. And the two Cat6 cables running from the two house cameras can go into a POA switch or I guess an NVR if it has 8 ports. I have flood lights on the front and the side and the backyards of my house and garage so I'm very well-lit. I'm just hoping that I can get for now the six new POV cameras to work in the NVR even though four of them are in a different building running to a POA switch with one Cat6 cable connecting the switch to the house which or the house NVR whichever way I go thank you for your time

I'm curious about night-time Reolink issues. I've encountered night-time Reolink issues. I found it necessary to turn down motion detection otherwise at night it was always on, as the IR from the camera would constantly trigger motion due to cobwebs blowing in the wind, dust particles, and, of course, rain. My thinking is that very near events had so much IR reflection from the IR emitters in the camera that motion was almost always on.

I'm wondering whether you have thoughts about lighting up an area with motion detectors that activate IR emitters. My thinking is this would change the pixels sufficiently to trigger motion on the reolink, lighting up fairly large regions, and getting around the near field reflections of close, tiny particles reflecting the Reolinks internal IR emitters. Note, I have to protect about two acres of land from the bad people that have come perhaps 8 times for various purposes, including to harm,. and so this is not an idle question.

The alternate is to suck down video to a blueberry pie server farm, and run expensive post-processing motion detection. Or combinations.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Also, thank you, for your review, and that you state the important aspects of camera selection: I can't imagine this is anything but an honest assessment. So refreshing! Thanks! your post is quite valuable!

I have found that a couple IR lights at different angles can dramatically improve the night quality of many cameras (even when dealing w/ movement)
It's the cheapest solution to improve night quality on my cams, and yes I do have 1 or 2 Reolink bullet cams in less important spots

I love my Reolink cameras, had them for years. The BIG problem I have with them is their software.

Their software is so buggy and I deal with all sorts of problems through their updates. From freezing, distortion, crashing and worst of all, massive memory leaks.

I tried looking for a simple to use alternative, but I've never been able to get them to detect the cameras, so I'm using the 7.2.2 version which may not be as intuitive, has not had any issues so far.

An issue I have with Reolink cameras is tied to the fact that an alert by SMS or email of some movement detected doesn't reach me while I'm sleeping. The idea I discussed with Reolink was to send an SMS or email that when it's reaching my mobile phone would launch an alarm as I can't stay up the whole night and stare at my phone to protect my house. My suggestions where not really well received and left me disappointed that an important element of surveillance and protection doesn't get solved.

I have to disagree with your assessment that Reolink cameras have "excellent waterproofing". Less than 2 years ago I deployed a total of 32 Reolink RLC-820As across two different properties. Both are in the rural mid-west (Iowa) where we have harsh but not abnormal weather patterns, thunderstorms, straight-line winds, etc. The "waterproof connector" that comes with the cameras is disappointing. I've had to RMA four different cameras, all under warranty, because heavy storms caused rain to get inside the connector, burning out the pins on the RJ45 connection or the accessory reset and power plug cords. I had an additional four cameras get water logged and stuck in a constant reboot cycle until I allowed them to dry out for several days, and bench tested them again as fully working. My resolution to this issue has been to wrap the outside of the waterproof connector, the reset button, and power plugs, with "Proxicast Pro-Grade Extra Strong 30mil Weatherproof Self-Fusing Silicone Rubber Sealing Tape For Outdoor Antenna Coax & Electrical Cables" (search for it on Amazon). So far, 100% success on all cameras with this technique. Bottom line, Reolink makes great cameras but in rural deployments where conditions are more harsh (less structural protection from the elements) you might find YMMV. Seal them up good.

For the record I have had a 14 month old RLC-810A fail due to water ingress. However, it was after 6 weeks of continuous hot weather with no rainfall, followed by a torrential downpour overnight. I suspect that a seal may have shrunk from all the heat. Regardless, two support messages to Reolink and a photo of the condensation inside the lens, and a replacement camera was shipped to me within 4 days. I have no hesitation in recommending them just based on that level of service alone.

One of the comments mentioned IR floodlights. Is it possible to have them triggered to go on with motion detection or do they stay on all the time. Looking at units like Tendelux, they seem to go on according to ambient light level and stay on all night.
