Locusts Attacks Cause National Emergency in Pakistan

Locust. These insects fly in a big group and damage crops and plants. Pakistan’s government has declared a national emergency because these locusts have destroyed crops—including cotton, wheat, maize, etc.—and trees worth millions of rupees.Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has told authorities to take urgent and necessary action against the locust outbreak, and prevent losses to crops. Since March last year, desert locusts have spread across an area of 9,000 km in Pakistan.

The states of Rajasthan and Gujarat have spotted locust swarms flying in from the West.
Punjab and Haryana are very afraid these insects will destroy all the crops. Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take up the issue with the government of Pakistan.Locust swarms have already caused immense damage in Rajasthan and Gujarat. According to experts, the locusts started coming from a desert in Saudi Arabia and then spread to Pakistan.
