Once we click on a scam sent by a mysterious figure, a demonic creature hunts us down and grabs us to turn us into sonic the hedgehog. Sega just decided to make sonic the hedgehog as the main character as sonic may have been replaceable and wasn't important before he got put in the game. It is likely that tails clicked the scam and it caused the demonic entity to put her in the game (I'm referring tails as a she before they get put in the game) gets put in the game. She becomes tails the fox and now he becomes scripted to follow sonic but it seems they may remember as time progresses. For knuckles and metal sonic, they may have been just AI.
