If you have to ask Sunni or Shia, that's where the problem arises. When you're Sunni you don't have to learn about sect as you can simply follow the Quran which tells you to follow the Sunnah and hence the hadiths. As Shi'ism can't be derived from the Quran, if you're with Shias then they have to explain stuff to pull you away from the teachings of the Quran!

The conversation should stop as soon as the prophet died. The prophet perfectly delivered the message of our religion. No addition no subtraction.

These sects were created when there comes opinion differences over Sharia. You can see law isn't same in all Muslim countries. Because law is basically a customizable and ever evolving instrument. Sunnis use quias (derived law's) . Shias use Aql ( law's based on reasoning). Muslims need not to fight over these sects. Illiterate mullahs are big threat to Muslim ummahs unity

There is no rules for prayer. Prayer is a very personal thing like religion itself, it is about intimate relationship between you and whomever you believing in. Prayer is best when it comes from you heart, inside your soul, in your personal, private space. If you settling up the rules for someone else how to pray, than your intentions are devious and you are settling up conditions to control the person by invading his or hers freedom and only constitutes to slavery.
