Smoke Signals, Powwow Highway, Dance me outside, Windwalker, Eagle's Wing
Ответитьel 1 y 4 son las mejores en mi opinion
ОтветитьWhat about Smoke Signals? An all native cast with an entirely native perspective. Not saying these other movies are bad but Smoke Signals written by the great Sherman Alexi.
ОтветитьCheck out A Man Called Horse, Little Big Man and Chato's Land
ОтветитьHow can Little Big Man and a Man Called Horse not be on this list?
ОтветитьBlack Robe, Pow-wow Highway, Smoke Signals, Fast Runner, & the one about the grandfather telling his grandson the stories of their people. Apocalypto I suppose. A fantastic study of Natives in 120 years of Hollywood "Reel Injun" made by a Northern Cree fellow
ОтветитьWhat happened to “Little, Big Man” with Dustin Hoffman ?
ОтветитьThese are not Native American movies. These are movies about Native Americans having to deal with White people
ОтветитьNumber 1, William Knife Man - Aho Young Warrior
ОтветитьYep, four great movies. Didn't see No. 2 but Graham Green is one of my favorite actors.
ОтветитьLittle big man
ОтветитьDances With Wolves definitely the top spot
ОтветитьPretty good list, everyone has their own opinions of course. All I “might” change is throwing Jeremiah Johnson up a notch but not a bad list at all.. All good flicks.
ОтветитьI would swap #1 and #3. Otherwise, no complaints.
ОтветитьThe Dwolves scene that I found depressing was when the indian chief holds up a helmet of some European soldier and says something about it being a trophy of his great great grandfather or something. These people did not progress in hundreds of years. Probably lived in the same tee pees. Doing the same thing day after day after day. Oh sure. The very occasional war with another tribe . Raping, pillaging, taking SLAVES. Buffalo hunts of killing hundreds of buffalo, taking only what they needed and leaving the carcasses to rot so as to let other tribes to starve. Did I mention they took SLAVES? What kind of life is that? One with nature? Yeah, right.
Ответить✨💜✨
ОтветитьThank you!
ОтветитьI have never seen "Jeremiah Johnson" and "Wind River". At first glance "Jeremiah Johnson" might be interesting, but "Wind River" i don't think it is for me. I don't like movies in nowadays which are set in a snowy environment. And I don't know why, i just don't like them. And this seems to be a regular crime movie, so i most likely won't take the time to see it.
"Hostiles" was a great movie, although i thought before i did watch it what could be so good about a movie of some guy who hates indians is getting an imprisoned native american back to his tribe? But, it got me hooked while seeing it. I love to see Christian Bale since the first time i have seen him on "American Psycho" (that is probably the reason that i DID see "Hostiles"). He played the best Batman in my opinion, and he makes the most of this role. And Wes Studi playing a native american is always a save bet (as you can see f.e. on "Geronimo"). Completed is the duo by Rosamund Pike, who i always like to see, but to be honest doesn't recall the name any other movie where i have seen her being part of the cast (i would have to look it up).
The last of the Mohican was filmed several times, but the one with Daniel Day Lewis is the most popular one. Probably because of the love story between the last of the Mohicans, a native indian and a white Lady played by Madeline Stowe. So there is something attractive to look at for both sexes. Daniel Day Lewis for the women and Madelone Stowe for the men.Good action, but no depth in my opinion. And for me it is too american, too patriotic. At least more than movies with the same topic (the last of the mohicans) from earlier years.
Dances with Wolves is in its own league. A man out in the West, very often alone with just his thoughts, that is something that appeals to me.
Broken Arrows. Check it out if you haven't seen it yet.
ОтветитьThe New World, Wind River, And Dances With Wolves.
ОтветитьBlack robe
ОтветитьThe film "Atanarjuat: The Fast Runner" won awards for best film, best director, best actor and best actress at the 2002 American Indian Film Festival. It also received The Camera d'Or from the Cannes Film Festival, along with a plethora of other prestigious accolades. Roger Ebert called it "passion filtered through ritual and memory" and gave it 4 stars.
ОтветитьThank God for the aryans mixing with native women in which created an even more formidable race. Long love our people, both European and Native. 🖤❤️
ОтветитьBlack Robe should have been on this list perhaps at #1!
ОтветитьClearcut (1991) tops my list
ОтветитьI think one short movie that no one has put down was narrated by the great late Richard Boone. It was called Conquista. It was only about 25 minutes long but it was about when the first Indian came up on the first horse.... it really did a good job portraying that one day when they first met and explained really well how it changed the Indians culture.
ОтветитьMaybe native american movies need to star just natives instead of white men
ОтветитьI would add "The New World" to this list (I am also part Indian*).
*And I detest the term native american.
Hi I'm searching for an old western where the hero was called Bushrock. I've tried looking everywhere but nothing. Really appreciate if anyone knows.
ОтветитьULZANA'S RAID (1972) Burt Lancaster and Joaquin Martinez.
It's a gem worth mentioning.
This is not so much a top 5 of Native American movies as it is a list of white heroes facing moral adversity that happen to have Native American plot motivators. As a Native I would rather Smoke Signals, Pow Wow Highway, Wind Talkers, Apocalypto, and finally Last of His Tribe as these at least attempt to put the viewer into the shoes of the indigenous protagonists. While it might be argued that Last of the Mohicans had a Native protagonist, I would contend, on my reservation, no one was rooting for Daniel Day Lewis.
ОтветитьI would've replaced Jeremiah Johnson with A Man Called Horse
ОтветитьClearcut w/ Graham Greene . Still my favourite.
ОтветитьWhats the movie name with the girl on the thumbnail
ОтветитьThe series ‘The English’ ; a unique and heart-rending love story between an Aristrocratic English woman out to revenge the death of her son while privately battling a deadly disease and a Pawnee ex-cavalry Scout is my absolute favourite Native American Story
ОтветитьCurious what people consider to be “Native American” films.
ОтветитьI liked Smoke Signals Thunder Heart and Last of the Dog Soldiers
ОтветитьA Man Called Horse (1970)
Little Big Man (1970)
Geronimo: An American Legend (1993)
top 5 Native American movies made by white men. Now why don't you give us the top 5 movies made by Native Americans?????
ОтветитьDances with Wolves is #1 IMHO....if you haven't visited the Black Hills of SD...you need to do so soon...touches the soul.
ОтветитьBale best
ОтветитьThese movies portray Native Americans to greater or lesser degrees of fidelity to the customs of the tribes presented. But central to all of these movies are the stories and journeys of the white people in the movie. At best, some have Native Americans actors at the side of the white main characters. Most portray the Native Americans as the "others". And as always, the fabulous Wes Studi is relegated to the edges of the frames.
Check out "Reservation Dogs" on how to have a portrayal of Native American stories and life.
Y'all left out Geronimo another great movie with Amerindian actor Wes Studi
ОтветитьI didn't care much for "Hostiles." My favorites were "Dead Man's Walk" and "Comanche Moon."
ОтветитьIMO Soldier Blue is the greatest Native American Movie ever made! It's hard to believe the horrific butchery these NA people suffered was actually true.
Ответить"Prey" is an underappreciated Native American movie. Really thought it was well done. And even though the Native Americans play a peripheral role in the movie, "News of the World" gets an honourable mention from me.
ОтветитьMost of these movies are very well-known…
How about some more obscure movies, written, directed, or acted in or all three of that by Native Americans?
I must say, you all selected movies that are worth re-watching and in my book those are few and far between. Well done! Note: all except Last of the Mohicans which I did not care for at all.
ОтветитьI can't believe Terrence Malick's " The New World " was omitted from your list..... what a beautiful film.....shame shame..
ОтветитьLast of the Dog men belonged on this list.
