My Opinions on the Rosary

20th century Anglican theologian Austin Ferrar actually suggested to Anglicans to pray the rosary. He proposed if you couldn’t say the Hail Marys for whatever reason, that you pray “Lord Jesus Christ, son of God, Son of Mary, have mercy on me a sinner.” And end the rosary with the collect for peace.

As someone who left Catholicism for Anglicanism i can appreciate his take on the rosary as i do love the Jesus Prayer, and i love Our Lady so throwing in a shout out to Our Lady I think is lovely while meditating on the life of Christ.

I've heard many people say that the Rosary uses imaginative prayer which is condemned in orthodoxy, so it isn't a good idea to use it.

I bet you feel better from 5 years ago, so I shoud add that in the western tradition we have the invocation of The Most Holy Name, widely propagated in the middle ages by Saint Bernardino of Siena. It’s the unceasingly invocation of the Name of Jesus under the mental concentration on the Cristogram in its latin form: Ihs. It is another thing different than the Marian Rosary, with different goals. With the Rosary we mean to obtain grace by the intercession of the Holy Theotokos, despite we are miserable sinners. With the invocation of the Name we mean to adhere actively on the Name of our Savior. I pray to God that I did not be unjust in my brief explanation, so may Our Lord drive satan away from the one who wrote this and who is reading. Both Rosary and The Name invocation are blessed means of grace and work in a complementary way, not exclusive

The prayer rope was formed by St. Pachomius in the fourth century. From there the rosary developed, some say as early as the eighth century. It is said that even centuries later St. Seraphim of Sarov (1754-1833) used it to pray to the Virgin Theotokos. In the thirteenth century, Roman Catholics started using in the West following its discovery by Dominic de Guzmán, a Spanish priest.

This is why we have a rosary - not to lose the track of our prayer. I just always hold the place on the rosary where I currently am with my finger or smth

Since I’m a catholic and I don’t have access to a komboskini or prayer rope. I use my rosary that a friend of mine gave me as a gift to pray the Jesus prayer. Is that okay right Bojan?

The Akathist hymn to the Theotokos and the Office of Paraclisis is considered equal to the rosary and both grant a Plenary indulgence according to Saint Pope John Paul II and Pope Paul VI.

What are your opinions on the other chaplets of the Catholic Church? Like the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, Chaplet of Saint Michael the Archangel, and other chapelts.

Well i think theres a prayer that kind of the same as The Jesus Prayer:

“O my Jesus, Forgive us our sins and save us from the fires of hell, lead all souls to heaven, especially those in most need of thy mercy”

We were told this by Our Lady Of Fatima and were told to pray this after the Glory Be...

I also do not believe in Medjugore, because the bishops say it is without merit. Unfortunately, my mother believes in it. I would also like to hear an Orthodox's take on Medjugore and other Marian apparitions- as well as the sorts of followers they attract. (Looking at you, Fatima. )

For a while I'd pray the rosary while biking to uni. You keep track by counting on your fingers and start every decade with which number it is. It can be done, but not while having conversations like the Jesus prayer.

My parish priest gave me a blessing to use the rosary. I’m glad to see that other Orthodox Christians use it as well. Yes, it is very difficult to say an Our Father while talking, hahahah.
