Running a 200 HP outboard on small 14 ft Jon Boat

I wonder if a v-hull would be a little more stable . We used to have a 14ft starcraft , like and 85 or 86 and the biggest we put on was a 30hp , i always would have wanted to try a 50 or 75 or bigger . I thought it ran good with the 30 hp on it . Could get some looks taking it on the lake and keeping up and passing bigger speed boats 😂😂

I put a Merc 225 hp Black Max on a little lightweight 14' Flat bottom Ski Barge back in 2012 or so. I ran a 21 or 22 pitch prop . It was the fastest damn thing . I have a 18' Hallett Flat bottom V-drive powered by a 557 Ford Stroker running a tunnel Ram and dual 750 Holley Center squirter carbs, Trick Flow ported heads. Dynoad a honest 781 HP and runs 94 mph on GPS 540 ft above seal level. And it was a race. The Ski Barge just ran so strong. Once it settled on plane it just pulled strong and smooth until it wasnt. We GPS the ski Barge and it ran north of 80 mph when I got out of it . It was real smooth until it wasnt and it started to chine and I knew it was going to flop over backwards if I stayed in it. I don't know if ballast up front would have helped or not. I just know it was smooth riding and I mean fast . It was so fast and smooth and then she started getting real spooky

Damn i love multi-cylinder two strokes! I had an old 75 hp 3 cylinder two stroke that I’d run with the garden hose in front of the house just to scare the neighbors. The sound and smell of a two stroke in salt water is the best.

I used to daydream about something like a 45 hp or so on a 12 ft John and just imagined it coming nose up out of the water and flipping but you guys took this to an insane level amd made it work so good!!! We fished a small nitro 17ft years ago and thought going from 115 to 150 would be disaster, now im really rethinking that it may have been just fine to do with the right mods!

If 55 is your geuss for speed, you can actually safely attain this with an 1860 with a yamha Vmax 90. Thats just with an alluminum prop, i imagine if you put a performance stainless steel prop on it you could get it up around 60.

Let me tell you, 50 mph in a modv is a lot of fun.
