LADA builds Daewoo cars and some other French manufacturer licensed cars ( not sure if it's Peugeot, or Renault) in Russia from Korean components. But the labour quality between South Korea and Russia is very different. Russian cars are often assembled using wood screws, instead of machine screws, which is why their parts vibrate much more than those assembled in South Korea/France.

It is my understanding that even to this day Brazilian and Mexican VW cars have way less computer modules, which is what makes German cars so bad when they break

Some of the differences were with actual different parts. Either ABS or Airbag modules on Brazilian and Mexican built were different from Germany and could be easily borked if you tried resetting an error light even with a VAG COM. They HAD to be reset by a dealership or they would have to be replaced.

I have a 2002 Passat - German-made and it is has that solid feel that reminds me of when I used to ride in my aunt and uncle's '70s-'80s Buick. Doors feel heavy and solid. I plan to get a new-used VW again someday which most likely won't be German-made but it will be interesting if just the times in general will lead it to feel 'cheaper' with lower-grade metal. etc.

I can assure you. The mexicans put alot if time into making sure the ambient lighting in these mk7s is of good wuality!😂 im jk. But i have minimal complaints about my mk7gli other then that everything rattles and shakes very annoyingly. Ive noticed some saying volkswagon is a status symbol of money; maybe its that way in mexico but i dont view it that way. I paid 27k for my autobahn with 16k miles and its msrp was 32ish...which is over 8k less then the average price of a new car in the usa....while theres alot more expensive maintanence i would say it evens out. Maybe not but even if its on the finanically heavier side the reason u buy a bolkswagon is the driving experience. Volkswagon is not an A too B brand. You deive a volkswagon because you enjoy cars. Atleast thats my perception. I like reliablility and performance. Thats why im a volkswagon and toyota fanboy. Neither of those things fall under any american brand. P.s some may argue but if you want too drive a new volkswagon 250k miles-do NOT buy the base 1.4l engine on the jetta/golf. Buy a gti/gli unless your only doing hey miles. The karger engine higher low end torque will decrease the strain on the engine sooo much it will last alot longer. Accelerating moderately like the average person does in my gli shifts at about 2200rpms. That same acceleration in the base 1.4l shifts above 3k rpms....thats a hugee difference that your wallett will notice at 200k miles. You see it on all vehicles such as a 2000 chevy 1500 i owned. My geannie had the 4.3l v6 while i had the big 5.3v8. Hers broke down 3x as much as mine. And mine never suffered any/not a dingle engine failure. Also if your looking at used trucks with over 2-300k miles there almost all the bigger v8 engines bc they undergo alottt less stress. Cheers mates

Back in 2011 I remember talking to production facility engineers about the new Beetle and they sent the manager from Porsche's 911 facility to make sure it was to a higher standard than any VW they've made. To make up for their disaster with the New Beetle. I'd love to get some solid evidence on this. From personal experience the fit/finish and reliability seems exponentially better than other VW's. There's zero information on this subject sadly.

I owned a 92 MIM Jetta, and I can attest that the QC was horrible and was confirmed by my local dealer. cylinder head warpage, lots of fit and finish issues. 92 was the first year (or close to it) of VW setting up their Mexico production line, so it was a learning year. So avoid '92 and should be fine....

I do know that the VW's made in Mexico in the 1970's - Beetles and Thing - were not that great. Maybe that was just the VW thing more than the geographic one.
