I was a hard hat diver in Alaska for 24 years, don’t remember ever seeing hallucinations. But ended up with some wild stories that no one believes.

They were all doomed i mean being in the middle of nowhere in the coldest part of the planet with a polar bear hunting you.

Although I like that this is a good use of Mr. Collins' ptsd from a man going overboard, I think this scene would've been an excellent use of the Inuit story of Sedna or the sea goddess/sea witch in Inuit folklore. Playing into the local cryptids of sorts could've made this scene even more terrifying

I remain in 2 mind about the monster. Is this supposed to be a "real" story retelling (not that we know very much about what actually happened) or is it a fantasy/horror story? I can't help but feel that the creature is completely unecessary and is there simply to sell the show to audiences who might not otherwise watch the show.

the video adaptation not so much

Idk if its what you intended but this is probably some of the best marketing that this show could have received because I immediately started watching it the night after I saw this vid.

I enjoyed this series.

If this series continued to brilliantly execute niche and showbiz neglected timeframes pre 1900 it would have survived. Jumping to 1940 killed the devoted history nerd audience along with normal demographics. An 8 episode Roanoke series would have kicked ass, but AMC execs pride themselves on turning gold into shit.

I love how people are so easy to just go "yeah it totally makes sense to have sudden hullicinations that everyone's also experienced and told the same experiences" 🙃 if you dip a man in cold open waters in the arctic you'll see things... wtf! how does that logic make sense in the mind of the normongos? 😂

Haven’t watched the show so maybe they explain this but the Terror was a real ship. She was sent around the Arctic circle to explore a route north of King William Island. It was given the best technology had to offer including steam boilers, propellers, and diving suits. One such invention was canned food. But, this ended up causing mass hallucinations on board because the cans were made with lead which ended up giving the whole crew lead poisoning. If you guys want a good video look up History Buffs’ video on The Terror where he breaks down the history. Very interesting story

After reading the book, I got to admit I’m disappointed we didn’t get a version of Crozier returning to the Terror years later, I understand it’d make no sense considering the way the series ended compared to the book, but imaging how the production team could have make that epilogue could have been some of the scariest television made

I watched two episodes of this show and hated it.
Cheap cgi and unsympathetic characters.

I think the thing that gets me about this scene is that it isn't where it ends. Collins pops up throughout the rest of the show, his mental health progressively deteriorating after losing his friend and then seeing his body in the water. He tries to articulate his increasing sense of depression to Dr. Stanley, but gets told "Yeah, sorry, I can't really do anything with what you're telling me." It's so apparent that he's lonely and suffering really badly.
