The next exhibit is about Gaekju, commission agencies that sold products, acted as trading brokers, operated warehouses, transported cargo, and conducted financial business transactions in commercial hubs across the nation during the Joseon Dynasty. As Gunsan was a logistics hub and a main tax collection area in Jeolla-do, there were many Gaekju in the city, especially around Gunsanchang, Gunsanpo, Jukseongripo, and Gyeongpo. The Gaekju in Gunsan established eongheungsaand hangseongsa,cooperatives to repel Japanese businesses, and supported educational activities to improve the people quality of life. Unlike other regions, the Gaekju in Gunsan actively participated in the ukchaebosangor National Debt Repayment Movement, in 1907. On the front panel is a photograph of Gaekju members with the national flag in the background in the early 1900s. The videos show the ferry points on the Geumgang River and the modern trade conducted in Gunsan, highlighting the city role as a transportation, logistics and trade hub in the early 1900s.
