Square cube law would NOT make big creatures impossible. It's such an easy thing to work around - Their structure is relatively tougher. There. It's logical that a monster the size of a building doesn't have the bones of a normal wolf. Especially when people are shooting at it. I hate when people bring up the Square cube law because it doesn't apply most of the time. We've had trees taller than buildings, so how are they defying physics? Simple. big Trees aren't made from animal bone.

You know what I find. Funny all this stuff about what types of guns we might use in the future might be an accurate, but we probably still will use some form of range projectile because for just about all of human history advancements in weapons have at least in some part. Then how can we make this thing move faster to kill the enemy
From what is essentially a spear throwing dog ball thrower to slingshots to arrows to muskets
Humanity has loved putting weapons through the enemy's head at a distance

I feel like your small comments on Halo are a straw man….in Halo the UNSC only started experimenting with advanced laser technology when they encountered the Covenant, reverse engineering the technology. We have no evidence of the UNSC having plasma or laser weapons before the Covenant, so of course they’ll be using more conventional weaponry.

turns out though that plasma weapons actually are technically possible, they just require a metric ass-ton of electricity to power and are incredibly inefficient

A lot of authors seem to forget that arms treaties and MAT are good work arounds for weapons that would be too destructive for the narrative.

Frank Herbert’s Dune and UC Gundam do this really well in regards to nukes and some other wmd types, if anyone wants some good examples.

if the only way for you to enjoy mecha is if they completely adhered to contemporary non-fiction technology from (usually) centuries before the story's setting, then i'm sorry, but you're duller than rocks and grits. you know why a zaku is popular? because it's an interesting and characterful design. the action is great. if petty technicalities which aren't at all relevant to the plot get to the point where they inhibit the ability to write the plot then they shouldn't be worried about.

Well, I made a solution to the Sci Fi weapons issue. Just use conventional guns that use bullets that are just upgraded and optimized for combat. Or utilize a super heated goo that’s shot out at high enough velocities to maintain a shape and be able to kill someone. Also why blow up the entire planet when you could, I don’t know, fire a superheated beam of heat and light that just ignites the atmosphere and glasses the surface that way you can rebuild the planet’s ecosystems and population in your own image. But all of this is coming from a nerd who has common sense and thinks an algorithm designed to help humanity but then determines it must eliminate humanity and all life form the galaxy in the year 2135

Alien primatives beating the space country actually makes sense. The alien primitives just want to be left alone, and the cost of one side's weapons means that their cost of war is likelly to be high enough relative to the value of this specific planet, that its not worth it if they can actually destroy any of the more advanced civilisation's stuff. Modern war is expensive, and honestly, often times it wouldn't be worth the hassle.

What’s funny with swords in sci fi is that swords were pretty much never effective in war as more range almost always equals better. Like seriously, I’m not even talking about guns or bows. Lances, literal spiky sticks were more effective than swords.

On the contrary, to make sci-fi weapons realistic, make all firearms and artilery in all types as railguns that aren't just sniper rifles and tank cannons.

They’re already developing laser resistant coatings for fighter jets and missiles, so lasers as point defense doesn’t make sense in the future.

Also portable rail guns won’t work. Not because of power, but because they destroy the barrels after just a few dozen shots. The navy is moving away from rail guns for this reason.

Laser weapons having knock-back is not actually completely absurd. Photons do not have mass, but they do have momentum and energy. Because of this, the same momentum of the photons released from a laser weapon will also be given to the weapon itself, in the opposit direction. With momentum being equal to the mass * speed, the weapon will receive a speed depending on the mass (smaller mass => bigger speed) of the weapon and the momentum of the released photons.

I'd like to know if there's any merit in letting more advanced weapons fall short of being useful due to poor skill. For instance, US calvary troops at Little Bighorn ran out of ammo quickly because they had a habit of taking fistfuls of cartridges and setting them on the ground because that's what they used to do at the firing ranges while they trained. When the Native Americans came up fast as hell with their guns, the soldiers would fall back leaving tons of unused bullets on the ground.

Also when Custer decided to take the high ground on his hill, it was way easier for the NAs to arc arrows above the hilltop and rain them down from above than push up the hill.

In Star Wars, there is an explanation why there isn’t nuclear weaponry the explanation is their shields are very effective against nukes, and that they’re essentially just firecrackers compared to super weapons, which is a stupid explanation, I know

I don't know much about Star Wars out of the films, so I don't know if there's a canon explanation to why only Force users have lightsabers to battle, but I know an intuitive one. It may be that anyone else could use lightsabers, but without higher reflexes using the Force to see the near future, they're are useless against ranged weapons.
Edit: this doesn't explain why so few people use lightshields, maybe for the material cost or something.

I will argue the defense of the native people, I know some people didn't like the ewoks (I though they were adorable) but honestly there is actually. As pointed out the material is often the cheapest an entire legion could afford. So while it seems like sticks & rocks are silly compared to actual guns, getting smacked by one, even in a helmet still hurts! And you're using that same kind of force you know have a helmet that's also smacking against you with said rock. Same with tree trunk traps. The fact they are tiny and blend into the lush green forest as oppose to the storm troopers with bright white armor, makes them harder to hit.

The Empire is used to having people cower or fight with traditional warfare. But are left unprepared for unconventional & improvised means. In one Power Ranger season Bulk & Skull were able to handle themselves in a fight against some of the mooks the rangers struggle with, because the mooks were expecting/made to fight actual fighters not bumbling antic of 2 of the three stooges.

People tend to forget one of the reasons why us Americans were able to win the war of Independence against British is also because we were the underdogs that were ill equipped who had to use make shift weapons, unconventional ideas & stealth against the royal army dressed in bright red.

A futuristic and reallistic weapon is more about more explosives with less cost production.
After all, explosives can damage throught soft buildings, large groups of enemies, don't need very high accuracy, and most of them are easy to transport or they transport themselves,
Another futuristic and reallistic weapon is simple poison/bioweapons. Just contaminate water, air or food source and you almost win the war without risking any man if done correctly
