Counter Steering | The interesting physics behind it

This actually saved my life once, i was going very fast then suddenly a car popped up without checking the road and i countersteered and almost crashed to it by some centimeters!

This Dude on the bike should have worn his gear. Especially when riding over the markings on the road.😅

important: the longer the wheelbase, the higher speeds it takes to "countersteer" aka normal safe steering. almost learned this the hard way with a Honda shadow. was used to short wheelbase sport bikes. the Shadow required direct input steering up to something like 15-20mph. i trust this is the same with all cruiser types, but worth mentioning because i had to take a long slow turn 1st time out, and didnt realize counter steering at slow speeds was a big no-no with those. almost drove onto the curb.

Cheaper to help people keep there current housing. Even if on a limited "until you get back on your feet." And its easier on the landlords, etc. etc.

I've been riding for almost 5 years.
I know what counter-steering is, as I have to use it any time I turn.
This whole time, I have had absolutely no idea how/why it works.

Every time I'd be going up the road to my house, I'd play around with my handlebars and pull right, just to veer left and visa versa trying to figure it out. I never understood it until now

There is no such thing as “normal steering” if you’re going over 5 mph. If you turn right you’re going left.

Actually this what everybody does unintententionally without realizing it. Only a few percentage know what happenes really. It still work for too of course. It is still suprising how many riders think you need to steer outward all the way long in a corner. 😅

this was clearly made by a NON rider, it's wrong. "There is no such thing as "normal steering". Direct input steering is only used when the bike is slow enough that the torque it produce isn't enough to lean the bike, you use it at extremely low turtle speed. But once you start to gain some speed it will always be counter steering, no other way."

Shouldn’t be called counter steering, you’re not doing that mid turn only in a beginning of a turn to make the bike lean. Only time you actually “counter steer” is if you break traction and are actively turning in the opposite direction through the turn and that’s called drifting

Hhhm. If you are watching this to learn something and you are thinking of getting a motorcycle - please do this steps before you buy it :
Get a bicycle - normal bicycle not electrical
Ride is as fast as you can - like a mad man
Go and get your license for a motorcycle
Buy your protection gear - full gear, helmet, jacket, gloves, boots, pants.
Now make as much test rides as you want on different bikes
Buy one that feels natural to you and it is easy to ride - not the one that you want for example some 1000 cc superbike
Go for a short ride
Than go for little longer ride
Than go for really long ride
Than go to track
Than ride as long as far you want. The world is yours now.


Or

Go get just a motorcycle and ride. This is the shortrst way to stop riding.

Never atemp to ride a motorcycle, but you dream about it, but you don't want the risk or the responsibility that comes with owning a motorcycle and you are just watching some videos about motorcycle in order to dream about hiw one day will be the day and you will try it and this day will never come. Because motorcycle is not convenient, because you have family now, because you don't have time now, because you are too old or too young, too stressed, too insecure, regardless of the gender, may be you don't have the balls to ride a motorcycle. So keep watching this BS

In the first example, the bike will topple outwards and you will fall from the bike before you can lean. The lean is almost always initiated with counter steer apart from maybe at walking pace.

Basically, you are likely counter steering without even realizing it if you have a sport bike travelling with decent speed onto an offramp of a highway. The bike feels too heavy because of the momentum to lean on your own, this method alleviates that. I shit my pants in this exact same scenario as the guardrail was coming up fast and I didn't have the strength to turn my 600cc Yamaha FZ (long ago when I was a kid). My more experienced rider friend explained it to me when I rode straight to his place after that and was about to tell him to sell my bike...lol

How many wrecks has this video caused ? so according to this say im flying around a corner I have the bike leaned over and there is a garbage can in the apex smack in-front of me im supposed to turn my wheel the other way the bike now changes directions I have avoided the garbage can but now I nerd to re correct the original lean get back on course and all is good ,,,yeah im am going to practice that

I havent riden a motercycle yet but plan to get one but i assume i do this subconscious as i ride a escooter and this scooter goes uo to 65 mph and i ride in town with traffic. I dont turn wheel to turn unless its slow speeds i just lean and press forward into the handle bar i wanr to turn and it works lol so i assume im doing counter stearing?

Been doing this for years on a push bike when doing sharp turns to quickly move out the way of something like the bike life guys do... it naturally comes to you, i didnt even notice i did this😂

I counter steer my utensils when i'm eating. It helps me eat faster.

This only works at vary low speed. If you do this above approximately 20 mph, you will lose control and wreck your bike.
