I think the fact the tech isn’t futuristic is that way for a reason. The reason that they changed why the purge is okay is because it was a really really really stupid justification at the beginning. It doesn't really change why everyone basically accepts it at face value. People were genuinely agreeing with this movies reasoning as to why having a purge is good for society. I'm pretty sure they mostly just didn't want to set the tone that there is a justifiable reason to, "Cleanse," society.

I think we need a deeper dive on what’s illegal during purge. They constantly say all crimes are legal, but then back track and say Purge Revolutionaries/ Resistance are illegal, certain weapons are illegal (makes sense), etc but I’m guessing there are more laws on the “lawless day” that aren’t being said.

What’s funny is the commentary on gun control in these movies is a joke. They ruin their own message because the rebels who are good guys use guns regularly to defend themselves and to fight back against a tyrannical government. The writers and directors did a real good job actually advocating for gun rights by trying to argue against them

Hey! love your videos. Fun Fact on the term Karen - It actually derives from African American Vernacular English and was used prior to the iconic Mean Girls character. Although coincidently they do share a similarity of a Karen being dumb, but there's a bit more to it. In Black Culture, a Karen would be an white woman who feels entitled to insert herself into a Black person's business with a sense of authority, Usually this looks like a Black person being stopped from entering their own apartment building by a Karen who thinks this Black person must be stealing and she uses the entitled false sense of authority to then call the cops because traditionally, white americans, somewhat unknowingly, tend to call 911 when being inconvenienced as opposed to an actual emergency taking place. 

This is where the origin of the dumb aspect plays in. Some Karens are oblivious to the sad reality that interactions with the cops lead to physical violence or death to that Black person. So a Karen, while entitled, and dumb originally had a connotation of intentionally or not, putting Black people in danger with that sense of authority. This same concept applies to Karens interacting with Black customer service workers. This his how other Americans picked up Karen and why many think of someone wanting to speak to a manager today and has a less dangerous vibe when used, but Black folks still use it in the original context and the pop cultural term.
