They may have an energy problem to a certain extent, but Russia is still slowly gaining ground in the east and lately in Kursk. They still have enough reserves to carry one this war for a long time. Let's not get too optimistic yet.

Err, shareholders benefit from all the gov $$ propping up these companies? Please explain how a shareholder benefits from a tanked share value and no dividends? Anyhow, when Putin nationalises them all into one, ALL shareholders will see their share investments turn to a big fat $ZERO. He'll just take it, and whoever objects will fall out of a window.

Hey Joe, I read that Ukraine said back in 2019 that they will renew the contract for the last time (for 5 years). Which ends this year and means that everyone knew that this will happen.

Now with Syria there is a new option appearing which would not be good for Russia at all: a new gas pipeline from Kazakhstan for gas via Syria to Europe. This would not go through Russia at all.

Doesn’t matter how much of the world’s gas reserves Russia is sitting on if no body wants to buy it.

It’s starting to look like by the time this war ends, and/if Russia start becoming trading partners again, that many of its potential gas customers should have converted to hydro/solar/wind/nuclear for their energy needs, and then Russia will be truely sitting on a reserve that no one wants.

Wait! “Suddenly stops overnight “???
It’s been almost 3 years, which should be plenty of time to plan for alternative sources of fuel.
Nobody could have predicted that Ukraine would allow the pipeline to continue unmolested for this long.

After so many channels reporting the increasing problems in Russian economy, we might think that Russians would be unhappy and start complaining soon! Unfortunately, this is still far from reality. I just spent 2 weeks in Sharm El-Sheikh, an Egypt beach resort loved by Russians and Europeans to escape our cold winters. The Russians that I spoke to are enjoying high salaries, able to afford vacation and many approving the invasion and the killings of Ukrainians, unless they love Russia (what is very difficult after Russia is destroying their lives and cities). It was impossible to make them see how wrong is to invade, steal and kill their Slavic brothers and sisters! Russians have lost their moral compass. Russia system, government and military will collapse as the Soviet Union also collapsed, but it will take longer than we keep hoping. However the wait and the effort is necessary. We can accept such an aggressive and criminal Russian government.

The Molotov / Ribbentrop Pact was published in full by Moscow in August 2019. This document , the original treaty, contained a "secret protocol. It was agreed that Poland was to be shared, and Estonia, eastern Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, and parts of Romania were all to be ceded to Soviet influence. The resulting super state of USSR plus the Third Reich was unbeatable until Hitler invaded USSR in 1941.
It now falls to Russia to become a Democratic State and bring Germany and Russia together again. A super state of Democracies.

Joe -Unlike Hungary n Slovakia, Austria is going to be just fine! Hungary and Slovakia haven’t even tried because their leaders are both Pro-Russia. The EU told all of the countries in 2022 that they better make alternative arrangements as soon as possible. Hungary and Slovakia have no excuse because their leaders didn’t even try. So I hope they DO have blackouts and maybe FINALLY they will vote these Russian traitors out of office.

Thank you russia for accelerating green energy in Europe.

Well some thinks russian energy is the cheapest. What if we add all spendings on defence after invasion?

It’s better and cheaper to import energy from USA who then will spend $ on NATO.

Modern warfare is expensive. According to gemini AI the US alone has provided $113B in aid to the Ukraine since the 2022 Russian invasion, of which $60B was in the form of military assistance. Granted much of the weaponry provided was due to be taken. out of service, but the economics of the sanctions cut both ways as almost every European residents has found out and relatively few of the Americans complaining about US inflation rates seem to appreciate.

War gamed out an ahem "real World War 3" ahem begins with an energy crisis inside of Russia which prima facie seems counterintuitive (how can an economy awash with so much energy product be out of oil?) a very valid point my understanding of which is out of oil because export nature of the resource to grift the hard money us dollar access which for obvious reasons can't be done now leading to parts shortages and refining production shutdowns. Also the distribution of oil production is quite disparate Kazakhstan, the Caucuses, Russia Far East so absolutely immense logistical challenge made far worse by War against the West which of course has almost zero oil save Great Britain and Norway. The reason this was considered a World War 3 trade back in the 1980s was lead to a naval war for control of the North Sea/deny North Sea oil to anyone else. This effort frustrated leads to a nuke weapon launch by Russia/back then USSR. Seems incredible to me as Caucuses oil supply "right there" not far away at all for Russia to get to as opposed to getting to the North Sea oil via attacking ALL UKRAINE anyhow never underestimate Russia taking the hard way i guess but again...why does Russia need the oil? Sending natural gas to China instead of Europe? Nuclear power? Coal in the Donbas? Ag energy product? NO WONDER GERMANY INVADED IN JUNE, 1941 if what is true today was considered as true back then anyways. Meanwhile of course Russia will never countenance defeat against Ukraine of course. People using the Ruble as some type of funding currency...how does that even exist? Meanwhile now the Levant/Syria and lo and behold... OIL AGAIN! anyhow just some thoughts going into options expiration tomorrow 😊😊

Hi Joe,

What you maybe have missed, we Austrians used the time since the start of the war until now to build a new gas pipeline. This one is called Penta West and connects Vienna to Germany. So russgas bye, bye we also now have also middle east gas. No more finger pointing at us, we are now the no war good guys. In Vienna many homes need gas for heating our homes and creating warm Water. We don't produce enough waste to burn to power up our District heating, which would be the Alternative. And BTW electricity is not cost efficient.

Don't forget that the transit contract through Ukraine to central Europe officially ends on December 31 this year. Starting on January 1, 2025 Gazprom will be losing just over $10 Billion of gas exports. This means more pain for Gazprom and less revenue and taxes going to the Russian government. There will also be lots of technical problems in Russia's gas fields when they have to start shutting down wells and compression stations and those may never start up again without huge amounts of money and technical expertise which Russian no longer has.
